My friends & I have a food pantry in my front yard. It is used heavily. We can't keep it full & could use some help covering the cost of shelf-stable supplies.
No one is using this pantry unless they need the help. We supply beans, oatmeal, onions, etc. It's not gourmet food.

Oh, so it's illegal to walk into someone's house and take their TV? When did it become illegal to secretly take money from the company that employs me? What's next? The woke left will make it illegal to kill somebody?

Vance is having an incredible morning on the Sunday shows doing "oh so now it's illegal to [mundane thing]?"

A real quote when Vance is asked about whether Tom Homan kept the $50,000 he got in a fast food bag: "Is it illegal to take a payment for doing services?"

the more things change, the more they stay the same in college football (coaches being showered in cash for not working)
Firings so far this season by Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Penn State, UAB, UCLA and Virginia Tech have those schools committed to buyouts totaling $93.9 million, subject to mitigation and offset, but not including amounts that also will be owed to assistant coaches

"This isn’t a case of one side seeing things one way (as “comparative calm”) & the other side seeing them differently (as a “hellscape”). It’s a case of one side (law enforcement, local journalists) trying to depict what’s really happening & the other side lying about it to serve corrupt ends."

✅ He replaced them with someone with NO prosecutorial experience

This isn't justice. This is retaliation.

What a precarious spot he's in, balancing between declaring absolute power and also pretending to be powerless to fight against the liberal elite.

BRENNAN: CBS confirmed the Trump administration rescinded the layoffs of CDC scientists. Some were involved with the federal measles response. How does a mistake like this happen?

The RIFs that began Friday will reportedly cut 65% of CISA’s 2,540 employees, one of the dumbest and most dangerous moves imaginable. CISA defends the nation’s cyber and critical infrastructure. Destroying it now only makes sense if you’re afraid of election integrity.

He has to believe that it's a leftist majority because he cannot believe that the weight of public opinion is against him. Progress can't be happening because most people disagree with him, so it must be some evil conspiracy.

For the past two weeks, a three-judge federal panel has been hearing a high-stakes trial that will decide whether the Texas GOP can keep their new gerrymander. While most national outlets missed it, we were on the ground.

"Vought is therefore not interested in “normal” democratic politics: He seeks to “traumatize” civil servants, use the military to suppress protests, & sees Trump as an agent of God’s will. It is obvious how committed The Daily is to sanitizing Russell Vought – & the movement from which he emerged."

Sunday reading:

I wrote about the aggrieved extremist who is currently firing thousands of federal workers and ravaging state capacity based on conspiratorial nonsense - and about mainstream media’s infuriating tendency to sanitize Russell Vought and the regime he serves.

This week’s piece:
We need to talk about Russell Vought – But Properly
Why certain mainstream outlets insist on sanitizing Vought as a devout “small government” conservative – and what actually animates his war against pluralistic democracy

A couple experts have pointed out that referring to political figures as "dangerous" tends to make them more admirable in the eyes of many Americans, the type of voters who admire strong men. Consider using "destructive," "incompetent," "clueless," or another adjective instead.

Unconstitutionally taking money that the law says must be spent on one purpose & using it for something else—when it's to establish personalist control over the FUCKING MILITARY—is about as dangerous a constitutional crisis/failure as you can imagine

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

The IRS is laying off people during the shutdown, even though it was rehiring staff it previously fired because it was so shorthanded.
This one stands out because firing IRS employees costs the government money, since they bring in about $6-8 for every dollar spent on tax enforcement
IRS Halts Layoff Plans, Begins Rehiring Amid Staffing Shortages
The agency is attempting to rebuild its workforce and restore public confidence.
Treasury Department: Treasury cut 1,446 employees on Friday. Two Internal Revenue Service employees confirmed layoffs were taking place at the tax agency, which has already shed more than 25,000 employees. One employee who was laid off was working Friday and exempt from shutdown furloughs.

God bless David Simon. He always says what we're all thinking.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Here's the link to my pantry. It's so easy to do. Buy a little free library box (or build one), attach it to a pole or stand on your property, put up a sign so people know the food is free. Buying the shelf stable supplies is less expensive at Costco.
