I think the vast majority of Americans do not realize this is the plan. Instead of hiring cops to police cities, they want an army capable of occupying them and putting down any resistance.

Gov. Bill Lee says Trump’s military-police occupation of Memphis “may never end.”

“We have just begun. We do know this is going to last for months… In fact, I will tell you that it will last forever.”

She has been doing a fantastic job covering ICE

Anyway, I have only booked a flight out there. I have 24 hours to cancel, or to convince 20 people to sign up for annual subscriptions to subsidize my lifestyle (following federal agents all around the country).

The thing that most strikes me is how untethered from reality the markets appear to be.

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson calls Sunday's naked bike ride in protest of the Portland ICE facility and and Trump troop deployment "the most threatening thing I’ve seen yet"

I suspect Antifa will be quite surprised to learn they have money

AG Bondi: "We're gonna get to the funding of antifa, we're gonna get to the root of antifa, and we're gonna find and charge all of those people who are causing this chaos in Portland and all these other cities across our country."

This is worth trying. There needs to be a regional alternative that can compete with MAGA. Whether that is a special kind of Democrat or a new party doesn’t matter.

There have been many times in our history when regional parties played an important role. To reform, we need to resurrect the concept.

I'm curious -- coming up on a year since many of us migrated -- how fellow denizens of #NBASky feel about this. I don't miss the other place. Feel like I'm getting plenty of NBA chatter and feedback here. (Though, admittedly, I do wish more of my media peers would post regularly.)

I AM really struggling with how little NBA talk there is on here and I'm tired of pretending I'm not. Ratio me, it's a badge of honor.

Important question

Why do I have a feeling these guys were deep in incel circles before they crossed over into Republican politics 🤔

The American-born pope has released his first apostolic exhortation—the message is certain to rile conservatives.

Leo is making clear that the moral center of contemporary Catholicism is Latin America, where the theology of the poor and marginalized first formed half a century ago. trib.al/5tuWMNl

This seems like the sort of thing state anti-trust investigators would be concerned about.

Yeesh, in the abstract there might be a good reason to bail out Argentina, but this isn’t it.
atrupar.com
Trump and Bessent clarify that they will only help out Argentina as long as Milei is in power. Trump adds that the same thing goes with NYC, where the White House will hold up funds if Mamdani wins.

What new pressures might they face? Whatever they are, I suspect they might not enjoy the experience.

So yes, if Netanyahu and Trump want the ceasefire to collapse, they can certainly make that happen.

Hopefully they choose to continue negotiations instead.

At that point, the real question is what do Europe and its Muslim neighbors do?

Arab leaders in particular seem very invested in having good relations with Trump and Israel, while quietly cheerleading the disappearance of the Palestinian cause from their domestic politics.

The living hostages have been returned, which is the important thing.

If Israel wants to resume its genocidal actions, it can do so with less pressure from the hostage families, giving it a freer hand to further discredit its supporters in the U.S. and elsewhere.

We’ve lived 15 years under Citizens United, watching billionaires and corporations shape democracy with their wallets. Reform once seemed impossible. But now, a group in Montana is asking a radical question: What if states simply stopped granting corporations the power to spend in politics?

Time owner Marc Benioff (and Salesforce CEO) just announced a few days ago that he's eager to start sucking Trump's dick full time. He even wants troops deployed to San Francisco. But as we see here, it's never enough. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/10/u...
