Don't forget SCOTUS in this, the SCOTUS cons are also heavily complicit in this

Feels quaint, almost cliché, to say this about a Trump action, but just for the record:

This is all illegal, the President can't simply disregard the laws passed and agencies created by Congress, and both Vought & Trump would be impeached if the Constitution or the rule of law mattered to the GOP.

Folks, stop giving Ezra Klein attention. If you stopped reposting him, talking about him, giving him attention, he'd be nothing.

I read the piece. You shouldn't. He dismisses the "No Kings" protests as liberals in blue cities. He invokes Rosa Parks, as if rural white people in the 60s loved everything that the movement then was doing. "We need a movement but not this one" is a core centrist tact these days.

He also doesn't have the discretionary funds for the next paycheck, but heck he's already sent $40 billion to Argentina, and we don't have a Constitution anymore thanks to SCOTUS...

Our country didn't even make it to 250 before dying.

See this for what it is:
*Trump wants to make the military/FBI loyal to him
*GOP refuses bipartisan legislation to pay the military
*Trump creates a new executive power: that he and he alone decides if the military/FBI is paid during shutdown

donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-shutdo...
This bothers me, and I think it should bother you. At a time when the President is politicizing the military, it strikes me as a deeply troubling development that their paychecks depend upon his willingness to dig into the treasury, as opposed to it being a bipartisan matter of law. Such a dependence is exactly the opposite of what we want to see in a regime built around the logic of personalist loyalty.

Protesters in Georgia can't wear inflatable costumes because of a stupid law where you can't wear masks to protests unless they're medical masks.

Frankly, people aren't wearing these to 'mask' their identity, but if the police so choose, they could ticket people. I'm sure the police will choose

And the craziest part is this was needless. Congress would've passed a military pay bill with near unanimous support! Congressional Ds have been begging Rs to bring a bill to pay the military to the floor! But Johnson refuses to gavel in because he doesn't want an Epstein vote.

Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

It's also needless because Congress would easily pass a troop pay bill if Johnson were willing to gavel in.

Long thread.

And Trump voters voted for this?

Trump: "I won Georgia three times. But they say twice. I won it big the second time but we had criminals that didn't allow- I hope they're gonna go into that. I hope they go into the votes which are being stored in Fulton County and take a real look at those votes, because I won it the 2nd time too"

Politico received an initial tip that a Taylor staffer had a swastika neatly pinned to his cubicle during a zoom call. When confronted, the congressman’s press office pretty implausibly sought to present the situation as a police matter, and Politico went along with that in its headline and lede.

Let me understand this...

So the rep's aide posted this Nazi flag, and the rep is pretending that someone else did it...

And called in the police?

Oh, we must never ever let Taylor lives this down.

Nothing says “AMERICA FIRST” like giving Argentina $40 billion while the US government is shut down and government employees are not being paid.

Hey MAGA Friends and family did you vote for Trump so he could give $40 billion of your hard earned tax money to Argentina?

Federal Judge blocks shutdown layoffs.

DOJ lawyer refuses to defend cuts, merely argues jurisdiction.

Judge: “This hatchet is falling on the heads of employees all across the nation, and you're not even prepared to address whether that's legal?”
donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-shutdo...
UPDATE: A federal Judge has imposed a temporary block on RIFs during the shutdown, saying the Trump administration has:

taken advantage of the lapse in government spending, in government functioning, to to assume that that all bets are off, that the laws don’t apply to them anymore and that they can impose the structures that they like on a government situation that they don’t like. And I believe that the plaintiffs will demonstrate ultimately that what’s being done here is both illegal and is in excess of authority.

Not one word from Trump or his administration on this. No offer to help. No sympathy.

He spends more time helping the President of Argentina than the people of the country he's supposed to be leading

And now, they want to hike the retirement age: "62 is the new 42."

Apparently $20B of our taxpayer money wasn't enough to bail out Argentina.

Now Trump wants U.S. banks to divert ANOTHER $20B away from lending to American businesses, farmers, and families to prop up Milei's corrupt presidency and failing economy.

So much for America First.
