It's got nothing to do with a levels. CEFR is a reference framework defined by the council for Europe (not the EU)

It defines six broad proficiency levels — A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 — and describes what a learner can do at each stage (in reading, writing, speaking, listening).

The “A-level standard” line is rhetorical, not literal.
It doesn’t refer to:

A-level English Language

It means English strong enough to function professionally in the UK — equivalent to an upper-intermediate, pre-university level of fluency.

Grant Shapps signed off 'Great British Insulation Scheme' in 2023 — but the National Audit Office says 98% of those installations are now failing. A catchy name, a costly mess. Britain deserved insulation, not infiltration.

Our military personnel sacrifice so much for our country, the least they deserve is a decent home for them and their family.   But many have suffered for many years, living in dire conditions with infestations, mould, flooding, and unreliable heating and hot water.

We will not let this continue.

We've gained seats from Reform UK, the Conservatives, Labour and the SNP. And we've won in Keir Starmer's and Mel Stride's backyards.

Liberal Democrats are the only party taking the fight to Reform UK.
