Today Leeds followed our forebears who kicked Oswald Moseley and his Facists out of the city at the Battle of Holbeck Moor and stood up to racism, the far right and said loud and clear”Refugees are welcome here”. This is Leeds

At the SNP conference, the WASPI campaign women recounted the long battle they have endured for pension justice with successive UK Government’s. Heart wrenching stuff.

Independents are increasingly defeating establishment parties on a local level. But that’s not always a sign of progress, and Warrington is a good example of that – where Reform is disguising its candidates as independents.

Reform caught disguising its local election candidates as 'independents'
Reform disguises parish-level candidates as independents to win elections, showing that independent doesn't always mean progressive

Since 2019, the UK economy has barely grown if we adjust for immigration. Poland’s, however, has grown by more than 18% - and is set to overtake Japan in the early 2030s

Good thread. The UK certainly did avoid many calls for further information / investigations into Russian interference before and after the heavily redacted Russia Report was published

These 2 speeches, which, as Nick points out, on the same day, precede what Gill has pled guilty to by 4 years, are more damning for Farage as they also precede Brexit.

All European secret services would have been alarmed by this & would/should have been investigating.

Poland’s centrist government is pushing to restore the rule of law undermined by the previous populist administration in an effort to fulfill a key election promise of the coalition government led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, which took power in late 2023 - but the chances are slim

The SNP's Stephen Flynn spelled it out clearly today: Scotland belongs to everyone who lives here - wherever they were born.

Yes and it’s great to see. We are so lucky to live in a country where as immigrants we are welcomed and celebrated. Language matters.

Language matters!

Being immigrants we can tell you just how much it means to live in a country where you are not just made welcome, but celebrated

We are very grateful to Spain’s PM Sanchez and his government for this and truly feel for our fellow migrants in the UK & elsewhere.

In the UK we have Keir -island of strangers- Starmer, whose government is driving right wing anti immigrant and asylum seeker policies

In Spain, Pedro Sánchez is not only celebrating diversity, they're embracing and speaking positively about immigrants

It'll soon be 10 years since the Brexit ref. So much has changed since then. If Brexit is the cause of our economic problems, as the government now admits, then surely we need to ask ourselves whether we want to carry on down the Brexit road or turn around and head back to the Single Market and EU.

3 years ago today, I signed 3000 copies of my first book.

I'd been a bored software guy for 32 years, and never dreamed something like this would happen.

I owe so much to @johnmitchinson.bsky.social for taking a chance on me, and to all my followers for turning The Week In Tory into a phenomenon.

I’ll be joining @talksport.com radio at 12.15 to talk about the Gary Neville video & the hysterical backlash to it that seems to be the norm now, when anyone involved in football dares to express a nuanced or humanitarian opinion.

Fellow football fans tune in 😊😊

Yes, we know, but for many people faith is an important part of their lives. Twisting religion for the purposes of bigotry or claiming superiority in your religion is the issue.
