Word has it they're running fewer trains, but with more coaches, most of those premium to make more 💰💰💰
A troubling percentage are suicides, sadly.

But BL simply runs a crapload more trains than any other Florida operator so naturally there will be more problems, by counting stats. I wonder what the rate is, tho?

"There’s a feeling of freedom, like I can escape.” In a funky #Florida beach town hit hard by last year's hurricane, lots of folks are now living in their cars, stirring a controversy as the place gentrifies. www.tampabay.com/news/pinella... via @tampabaytimes.bsky.social

"It turns out, in the end, that there’s only one check and balance that actually matters: Good character. Everything else in a constitutional system follows and relies on that simple foundation."

Excellent explanation of how vitally important good character is in government service.
The destruction of the East Wing is a reminder that America has violated the only check-and-balance that actually ends up mattering: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/the-only-c...

Later at this Axios event: Politics reporter Stef W. Kight asked Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) if the White House is adequately informing Congress about it blowing up boats that it says were smuggling drugs (which sure look like war crimes). His answer: "No. Congress isn't hearing enough in any forum."

Oh, I can attest that Florida people are uniquely stupid in many ways, this being among them.

It can also be simultaneously true that BrightLine was ill-advised to run faster trains through densely populated areas with many grade crossings and no physical barriers to cross the tracks.
The Atlantic looks at Brighline and its accident history.

"But if the people of Florida were uniquely stupid in a way that made them more susceptible to being hit by trains, you would expect them to be hit uncommonly often by all trains. This is not the case."
A ‘Death Train’ Is Haunting South Florida
The Brightline has been hailed as the future of high-speed rail in the United States, but it has one big, unignorable problem.

How is the Google DeepMind model doing so far this Atlantic hurricane season?
My *preliminary* homogeneous verification shows that the DeepMind ensemble mean "GDMN" is dominating in both track and intensity, beating the revered "HCCA" consensus and the NHC ("OFCL") at all/most lead times.

Interesting: using crytographic techniques to make visible the chain of edits to a photo, and to identify the type of sensor that made the original.
Delighted to learn that Adobe, Nikon, and Leica have launched this effort to create an encrypted signature that distinguishes real digital photographs from AI imagery, and preserves the chain of custody, and that Nikon and Leica now have cameras with it.

Vitello will be introduced in a press conference Oct. 30. No terms were announced but we're hearing it's at least a three-year deal and possibly four.

The #1 criteria for my browser is that I trust it, and it’s secure. It’s logged into my email, Stripe account, stores my passwords and credit cards.

A browser is useful if it does all these.

These AI browsers are interesting but… with prompt injections, no way I trust them…

#Melissa has struggled w/ wind shear today & the vortex remains very tilted

It's common for weak TCs like #Melissa to struggle in the Central Caribbean, an area of the Atlantic known as the Caribbean "Graveyard"

Here's a mini-🧵 on what the Caribbean "Graveyard" is & why it matters here:
Broward County gets calls every day about iguana hunters carrying rifles outdoors. If a guy carries a pistol into a Publix around here, somebody WILL call 911. The question is what they will do with the call.
