Over 300 Native people have been evacuated to Anchorage (after many more evac'd to Bethel) from Alaskan villages destroyed by #tyhphoonHalong & bc the impacted area is already getting little daylight & soon freezing, they won't be able to even go back for construction at all until at least March.
This Indigenous Peoples Day please speak up: another typhoon sweeping away homes of Alaska's Natives, who, during settlement (statehood: 1948) were forced to end ways of life (like my Grandma's) involving mobility across regions & stuck them in flood-prone/unstable villages with housing deficits.

COVID safety at SLICE
Masks are strongly encouraged at SLICE! Free N95 or KN95 masks and hand sanitizer are available at the entrance, the info booth, and the SLICE table inside the expo hall. The expo hall is equipped with HVAC filtration that meets CDC ventilation guidelines and two HEPA air scrubbers purifying the air.
Go forth and spread the word!
about to tell a bunch of undergrad writers that it is simply too late on the clock of the world to worry about being cool, it’s time to love loudly, be earnest and weird and embarrassing, feel the feelings instead of numbing them, tell the truth, and seek out as much art/music/queer sex as it takes

(it really does smell like a pipe organ in the bottle!)
Such wonderful big smiles! 💐
And if you're soooo smart and rational about how impossible masking is, why aren't you working on/advocating for indoor air quality? There's never any alternative offered, just the ableist condescension that feeds into fascism.
All I can add to the “we reject universal masking” discourse is that it’s not about masks. You aren’t rejecting universal masking, which never happened; you’re rejecting having to think about wearing a mask, and maybe feeling badly about thinking about masks. Can’t help you there.

The growing trend of non-medical exemptions and falling vaccination rates in MN (and nationally) is fueling measles outbreaks. COVID and the chaos around it (especially misinformation) has been terrible for public health 🤦🏻‍♂️

minnesotareformer.com/briefs/minne...
Chart showing medical exemptions for vaccinations have stayed stable (0.2%), whereas non-medical exemptions have gone from <2% to nearly 6% Chart showing drop off in vaccination among MN kindergarteners from mid-90% for multiple vaccines to <90% for many of them, including MMR. 2020 the big inflection point

🏜️Ahead of #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we have to talk about why it’s time to drop “health care desert” (and similar desert imaginaries) from our vocabularies. 🧵
