books should have an anti-acknowledgements section where the author talks shit about all the people who fucked them over while they were trying to write the thing. not bc I personally want to write one but bc I love gossip

At last, the dismantling of the federal government has hit my household. The layoffs are happening because NASA has defunded critical work.

At least I'm still employed, and tenure in a California public university still means something. And our house didn't burn down. Lots to be grateful for.

Lou Brown: C'mon, Dorn, get in front of the damn ball. Don't give me this olé bullshit!
Roger Dorn: Hey, I took one in the eye last year, I'm not about to lose my sight.
Brown: I'm deeply moved. Every time you play one off your hips, you owe me 40 sit-ups.
Dorn: What!?

And sadly NPR's Tom Bowman is handing in his press pass after 28 years because of it bsky.app/profile/npr....

Tom Bowman has held his Pentagon press pass for 28 years. He says the Pentagon's new media policy makes it impossible to be a journalist, which means finding out what's really going on behind the scenes and not accepting wholesale what any government or administration says. n.pr/4q87Jwb

This is the first 8-6-2 (or 8-6-2-2) double play in the playoffs over at least the last 35 postseasons

The last time there was a play like this in the regular season was by the Reds on April 16, 2004 (8-6-2). CF: Ken Griffey Jr. Batter: Sammy Sosa

Ok so now I think it's technically 8-6-2U (unassisted)

The old 8-6-2! Just like they drew it up in Spring Training.
