Again, every time this happens, we literally have no idea if the masked, plainclothes people are actual government agents, or private citizens acting in party-affiliated paramilitaries. The whole point of IDs & uniforms & no masks is that we know these things.

If they feel entitled to enforce this, and that necessarily means that they're going to feel entitled to stop and ask people for their papers if they think they might be aliens.

digital illustration of Morrigan from Dragon Age, laying on some fluffy grasses underwater, with fish and lily pads above. Water reflections on her skin look like raven wings. The illustration is framed by two dragon silhouettes.

I agree that YA should not exist as a separate category but for a practically opposite reason to this, which is "anyone can read any book they are interested in reading".

YA shouldn’t exist as a separate category—it infantilizes teenagers who can/should just read regular books for adults. And don’t get me started on adults reading YA…

I say it all of the time because it's true. On the whole, we aren't brave as individuals. But there's strength in numbers.

Resisting arrest has long been used as a “cover charge” by police (in Chicago and elsewhere) after they use force against someone, as I reported back in 2018: www.chicagoreporter.com/chicago-poli...

Worse, all of that sounds extensive.

And if there's one thing insurance companies love more than simple is CHEAP.

Why attend all that money on experts when anyone with a calculator can give a definitive answer on who to charge more?

That's a lot of tests to wait on. And when you get your results, they may tell multiple structures that aren't easy or meaningful to summarize in a single number.

And what do you do to improve? Well, it depends. Especially if improving one hurts another.
bohrne.bsky.social
Want to improve? Well, either get taller or get lighter. I'd that simple.

Compare that against a more holistic and personalized measure.

Then you need to take your height, weight, actually body fat ratio, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, endurance, kidney & liver health, etc...

What I do know is our human brains just LOVE simple & fast.

If it's simple, then it's easy to understand. We don't have to with too hard to consider what it means, or how to take action.

BMI is a single number based on two other numbers. Done.

Are you healthy? What's the number say?
bohrne.bsky.social
I expect it was designed to be simple and fast.

But that's me making an assumption from the observation that it is both simple and fast.

I didn't really know anything about the intent or designers.

Good for them: it is a violation of the Hatch Act that limits the use of public assets for partisan messaging. Orgeon has its own version of that law, and covers those who run the airport. Other airport administrators should look to see if they are in the same position.

Fun with Data
Juvenile Crime skyrocketed between the 1960s and 1990s. Gang violence and 'super-predators' dominated the news. Then in 1995 it dropped and kept dropping.
No one knows why.
Some attribute it to Roe-v-Wade passing 20 years before.
Possibly it was all those "violent" FPS video-games.
Three graphs charting 1960 through 2021.
One tracks Juvenile Robbery Arrests Rates, another for Juvenile Aggravated Assault, and the third Juvenile Violent Crime. All the graphs rise from 1960, peak in 1994/1995, then drop to just above or below the 1960 rates in 2021.

I am so weary of that class of extremely online leftists who think being a Serious Person™️ who only posts and does nothing else is superior to being a Fun Person™️ who physically shows up

I deleted a post of me in a frog suit with my 7-yr old daughter because a big account reposted, admonishing us for not being serious enough protestors (or something). I shouldn’t have included my daughter in the image, which was why I deleted it. But I was stunned by the condescension.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.
