Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Can Confirm: Hours between 11PM - 7AM are my golden hours on the exercise bike. Those miles I can get in easily.

So, this is still an issue. We’ve done everything we’re supposed to, reporting it to the delivery truck company (Penske), and they have just gone M-I-fucking-A!

My husband works for a law office, so we’re now having an attorney write a strongly worded letter bc wtf. I just want my car fixed.

You want to hear something kind of ridiculous? Dropped my car off the other day to get inspected. Got a call the next day, before they had even looked at it, bc a delivery truck had pulled into the mechanic and sideswiped my car, damaging the driver side mirror and front bumper.

To clarify: My boss paid me back for the ticket because he knew it was a show I wanted to go to. I got shit from co-workers within the store & the company because I "care too much". But honestly, working that iron had me at 80 hours for the week.

I had tickets for this show. I didn't make it as my boss at the time had to leave because his wife went into labor early & the doctors thought she was going to lose the baby (she didn't, thankfully).
