@ianbyrnemp.bsky.social had to point out UEFA moved the game to Hungary after the Turkish authorities refused to stage it &the Hungarian authorities then played it behind closed doors. Hence no trouble

Agree. Non-polarised issues can become polarised over time - particularly if a party latches into it (in this case Reform), and suddenly the settled consensus becomes more tribal.

When I researched mine I found this to be mostly the case for mine too. Except for a great uncle who was captured during the battle of Crete in 1941, and spent the rest of the war in an Austrian POW camp.

Only other record I found was a great grandfather who'd served in India in the 1880s.

I know one of his uncles was a military research guy during WW2. Not sure if you can count that as 'military service' but it would definitley fall under contributing to the war effort.
