Rust, Rusty Bikes, and making everything safer. Berkeley, CA.

I just went to the Berkeley Transportation and Infrastructure Commission meeting to recount this story.

That was hard. I barely kept it together. I hope I did Ben justice.
On Thursday, Nov 14th, I was riding home from BART. At Rose and Josephine in Berkeley, an intersection that I have always treated with care, and especially after dark, I ended up witnessing this tragedy. I saw a car hit a pedestrian (Ben I later learned).
Beloved, long-time Berkeley community member Ben Brown was the pedestrian killed on Rose Street.

Please consider donating to this GoFundMe to help his family with funeral expenses and travel.

The obvious response to this is that if the Republicans don’t want to be in charge, then they can just do what the Democrats are saying to do.

It’s simple.
Mike Johnson: "Democrats are required to open the government. They keep saying, 'Republicans are in charge of government.' We aren't!"

Close the bike lane, offer a "free shuttle" that just gets stuck with all the other car traffic.

Fewer bikes= more traffic.
Real time tracking for the shuttle locations is also available here:

Currently the westbound shuttle is stuck in a long queue of car congestion waiting to access the bridge. No bike/walk trail to blame this time.

Let that sink in.

These are amazing.
Get ready folks - HALLOWEEN CONTEST 2025 is around the corner!!!! I have to warn you, #bunchfam goes HARD 🐈‍⬛🎃🦇

Thank you for being there Robert. On ND someone is already so mating that it’s great, there was a car broken down and no traffic.
They are spending more money to deny bike and pedestrian access to the bridge than if they had left it open.

What this will eventually mean is cuts to the shuttle service, and even less access for people.
It’s 6am on October 27th, 2025, the first day of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge trail closure and free bike shuttle service.

I’m here for most of the morning handing out rider surveys for @bikeeastbay.bsky.social. You can take it here too: bit.ly/rsrshuttlesurvey
LOL, and they double it up while I was posting this.
Indiana Vassilev, don't know about that mustache, but can't deny he's a key game changer. Deserves to be on the USMNT.

Philly take the lead.
I only watch the most beautiful game.
Just totally ignoring the MLS' playoffs?

It's like there's always been a policy to downplay the success of Soccer in the US, my guess, because it's a better viewing experience with far less advertising interruptions than these other sports.
Monday is a Sports Equinox! ⚾🏀🏈🏒

All four major North American men's professional sports leagues—MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA—are playing on the same day.

Here's a look at the schedule for all of the Sports Equinox action! 👇
I think they operate by phone (I have the fortune of just ordering in person when I’m there), but this has all their contact info.

Thank you for signing my book! I loved your presentation before the Q&A.

I can’t wait to crack open the book—it’s going to be a gift to all of my family this Christmas.
There’s a great maple farm down the street from my parents in Western NY, I’ve gotten Grade B and even sugar shipped for years by the gallon to CA.

It's been 33 days since Adelita Grijalva was elected by the people of Arizona's seventh congressional district to represent them in Congress.

Mike Johnson still refuses to swear her in.

An after-party of a sort @thewaroncars.bsky.social, waiting on the BART at 24th St/Mission in SF. We were heading to our hotel in Downtown Oakland; others elsewhere.
It was great meeting you last night!

who creates the lively art and music scenes if the rent is too high? who makes cultural life? who serves you food or washes your dishes? who creates the fancy little restaurants that draw you to urban living? affordable housing is at the heart of what makes city life worthwhile.
I finally have the book. We all need to become Superman.

Great talk, makes me excited for the future even if it seems so hard to believe given everything else going on.
So awesome to run into you all!
Yes. CA should form its own banks, require all tax payments to the Federal Government to flow through them.

Then start using its financial might to distribute that money locally instead of sending it to the feds.

Yes this would take banking back to pre-civil war era, but it’s probably necessary.
If MAGA really runs the country into the ground, it is good to have blue states as strong as possible in terms of economic productivity. The main costs of the country are entitlements and health care -- reallocate them to states.
