I've hung in there for more than half an hour, but I think I'll give up and do this again tomorrow morning.

My Disability Employment Services caseworker had warned me the DES Transition Line had a wait time of about an hour. The recorded message says there's an "estimated wait time of more than 2 hours," and they may not get to my call today.
I still have tomorrow to ask to be switched to a different JSP.

In the dying days of my Labour membership I witnessed on a video call a Jewish member trying to raise points that anti-Semitism was being weaponised and Corbyn scapegoated only to be shouted down by Labour right members and muted from the chat.

"In September 2020 “Gordstein” was one of three complainants against Riva Joffe, an 80-year-old Jewish veteran of the anti-Apartheid struggle in South Africa.

Her sin was to have described Israel as an Apartheid state (a view shared by Amnesty, Human Rights Watch and the Israeli human rights organisation B’tselem) and to have urged Jeremy Corbyn to stand up to the “Zionist lobby.”

The Labour Party opened a formal investigation and Joffe spent the closing days of her life penning an immensely dignified response from her death bed. “This frenzy of purging you are driven to – it’s not the behaviour of mature adults. It smacks of desperation, fear and panic,” she wrote.

Joffe lived in Starmer’s constituency and knew him personally. But a direct request on behalf of her son that the charges against her be posthumously dropped did not even elicit a response."

Why do so many people and politicians not understand that when people are broke and have no excess income, they can’t spend at small/medium size businesses therefore the economy goes into a death spiral and businesses go under?????? Not all of us are wealthy and sorted, ya know? #nzpol

So, the Albanese Govt's Education Minister wants to do something about bullying.

Perhaps he could start by ending the legalised bullying of LGBTQ+ students by religious schools.

You know, like they promised in 2022, before walking away from it, and from vulnerable kids. #auspol
Education ministers to consider new national standards to combat bullying
Krishani Dhanji
Krishani Dhanji
Federal, state and territory education ministers will consider a proposal for a new national standard on anti-bullying when they meet on Friday.

The communications minister and eSafety commissioner are also set to brief the ministers ahead of the social media ban taking effect on 10 December.

The government announced the anti-bullying rapid review in February, with co-chairs Dr Charlotte Keating and Professor Jo Robinson to present their findings and recommendations to the meeting.

The education minister, Jason Clare, says the review shows the prominence of bullying in and out of school hours.

Complaints about online bullying to the eSafety commissioner have increased by 450% in the last five years ...
The review reminds us bullying doesn’t stop when the school bell rings any more. Today it can follow you all the way home after school. The internet means that you can be bullied now at any time, day or night, and anyone can see it.

True story, one of the things I wasn't allowed to put in my Police Brutality online course was a section about how many dogs cops kill.

What was extra wild is you can look at departments' pages for 'lost in the line of duty' and a good chunk of them are K9's shot by their incompetent partners
faineg.bsky.social
I have long believed that we should be WAY more vocal about how police and ICE constantly murder dogs, and I think this is great messaging actually.

The reality is that you can mobilize a whole lot of usually tuned-out Americans around a “someone is being mean to hecking doggos” cause.

That “partial refund” at this point should really be full refund + compensation + full throated apology to welfare recipients whose lives are directly impacted by the quality (or lack thereof) of reports like this by unaccountable consultants.

Wow.
"The corrected version of a Deloitte report to the Albanese government reissued by the big consulting firm after it was found to include AI-generated mistakes contains new citation errors and other flaws in referencing the academic work it relies on"

More errors, ‘irrelevant citations’ in Deloitte’s revised AI report
Academics question how AI-generated “gobbledegook” can be justified after the fact by irrelevant citations, as the big four firm republishes its welfare report.

And let’s be clear - this work should never be going to commercial consultants in the first place.

A properly independent public service should be providing frank and fearless advice that’s open and transparent.

The public service is there to follow the law - not help the Government break it.

Meanwhile all this time and money could be spent actually improving the lives and outcomes of welfare recipients.

Instead we have billions of dollars punted back and forth deciding how much cruelty the Govt + public service can get away with.

Ok, here's what we got. The Department is cancelling welfare payments unlawfully, so paid Deloitte $440k to do an assurance review, even though the Secretary used to work there, & when Deloitte concluded they couldn't assure the unlawful system, DEWR tried to bury the report, but

they got bullied by advocates and media to release it, where it turns out the report was full of AI slop, which became a global media scandal, so Deloitte part-repayed DEWR back $98,000, and re-uploaded the report, which has now again been called out for being riddled with errors

I am also struck by the lack of attention paid to how Israel fired tear gas and rubber bullets *today* at Palestinians waiting for the release of their loved ones.

This kind of brutality is just priced in, and therefore deemed unimportant to report on.
jonathancohn.bsky.social
Very jarring how the media treats some lives as inherently and others not.

I am happy for hostages and their families to be reunited, but it’s shocking how little media attention is given to “how do Gazans grapple with the utter destruction of their homes, vast loss of lives, and ongoing famine.”

The homes Israeli hostages return to VS the homes Gazans return to

The is no going back to “normal” for them. They are now living in a rubble ridden hellscape while the western world moves on, pretending it didn’t fund and approve this.
On the left is a street in Tel Aviv, Israel. Pictured is beautiful green lush Mediterranean style cityscape.

On the right is an image of a young Palestinian girl walking the “streets” of Gaza City, now turned to rubble and ash. The buildings are demolished by bombs and war crimes while the streets are littered with debris, rubble, and broken concrete.
