BikePortland is always well-written.

@jonathanmaus.bsky.social essay on the Sunday October 12 2025 Emergency Naked Bike Protest Ride is poetry. As are the photos.
photo from above of hundreds of people laying on the Burnside Bridge in a die-in in various amounts of clothing. The text says, "When it was time to saddle up and roll out, the ride spilled out of the plaza and onto Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd toward the Burnside Bridge. The group stretched the entire width of MLK from at least NE Couch to the Convention Center. As the front reached the western edge of the Burnside Bridge, they pulled over, dropped their bikes and laid down. It was a mass die-in and moment of silence where everyone could collect and connect their thoughts." from this article: https://bikeportland.org/2025/10/13/presence-as-power-marks-massive-pedaling-protest-against-trump-397470

It was wet. It was cold. Everyone was having fun.

Thousands of Portlanders showed up to say they are unafraid — by making themselves as vulnerable as possible.

Many fully or partially naked, all of them astride bicycles, the crowd swelled like a sponge in the pouring rain.

Calm and focused is an excellent response. Also bike buses, bubble machines, penguin & chicken costumes, giant puppets, sing-a-longs, jazz bands, group bike rides, picnics, bike happy hours, and being together outside.

I'm telling y'all, the greatest gift we can give this nation right now is self-control. Deny the regime a victory here. We must regulate and realize our power comes from staying calm and focused: refusing to let them manipulate our emotions and incite violence. Calm, focused, regulated. We got this.

OK, so this is going to be tough to hear, but it needs to be said.

Now that Trump has been enjoined from sending *any* NG to Oregon, ICE is going to go gangbusters in Oregon, dialing everything up to 1000%.

Because they need riots. They need someone punching an ICE officer.

DON'T TAKE THE BAIT.

Frogs stronger together.

Protest frogs have built in rain protection, and wearers can bundle up during cold spells.

Might costumes like these have potential for some future group bike rides?

A key difference between people on bikes and those in cars is that people on bikes are usually happy to see others riding bikes, whereas those in cars often rage at other people in cars.
