Airlines does this with paying back uniforms they force flight attendants to buy in training (which is unpaid for 6+ weeks). They won’t let you refuse to buy pieces so every new hire starts off with
$1,000 in debt until paid off through your paycheck. Usually takes about 4 years

Bosses have increasingly been trapping workers with debts incurred in training and other exploitative fees.

Now that's illegal in the nation's biggest state.
