Steam Deck seems to fit that pretty well but based on what I’ve seen and read on previous/older ROG devices months back, the Windows PC quirks (that I wouldn’t want to deal with) were going to be there.
It’s for those familiar with Asus ROG devices &/or other handheld gaming PCs. Very niche & not for the general console gaming audience.

I have no interest in it & handheld PC gaming isn’t for me at all. Easy to ignore instead of inaccurately treating it like an Xbox Switch despite flawed marketing.
Already bored out of my mind by the "but is it really an Xbox" debate over the ROG Xbox Ally.

"But what if people buy it expecting it to play console games", as if these theoretical people will drop a literal grand on something without doing any research at all

Nothing I hate more than getting a new gadget and immediately needing to do a software update. Terrible user experience.

Microsoft has never really done the work to put Windows in a mobile space, phones, tablets, gaming handhelds, or otherwise. They've been mostly happy to ride the wave of popularity that the Windows name brings and hope for the best. This doesn't seem any different.
And as I said months ago here (below) the device is still being pushed & talked about as if it’s a dedicated portable Xbox/Series S and it’s not at all. Its very high price should help avoid appealing to those that think that’s what this Xbox-branded ROG is.

Still very messy though either way IMO.
I personally know how much work goes into collabs so I totally get/understand the push/presentation of this video.

I (again) feel though that this is creating an impression that the ROG will play *ALL* Xbox Series titles instead of what’s on Windows & I’m not sure how big of a problem that will be.

Skimmed my feed and saw impressions & it looks like people that were familiar with previous ROG Ally devices are mostly OK with it.

I’m not interested in PC gaming and Windows (or Windows-like issues/tinkering) on a portable device sounds like a complete headache. Not for me at all. ::shakes head::
As the preeminent "Windows is a joke on handhelds" guy, I shouldn't be surprised to see that the ROG Xbox Ally X kinda just introduces new variations on all of the OS's problems instead of cleaning them up.
Never fun to realize your parents & their siblings are quickly becoming the oldest generation in your family.
