Like, yes, it sucked to lose DMX at 50, but he also struggled with crack usage from the age of 14 (which wasn't his fault. He was given a crack-laced blunt by an adult mentor) and we have to keep those details in mind.

Either way, Black ppl deserve to age gracefully with systems that support us.

It's also not enough to just go to the doctor when that system minimizes Black pain AND STILL TEACHES that we have higher tolerances for discomfort and/or labels our attempts for assistance as 'attention-seeking'.

Regular screenings are great, but we also have to make daily choices that benefit us.

We (speaking exclusively to Black family) are also discriminated against within the medical system and face significant adversity in daily life which compounds our stress. It's not called the silent killer for nothing. Just being *here* is hard on our hearts and psyches.

I understand we're trying to encourage each other to be health conscious, but it's important to remember the context of a lot of those celebrity passings.

Many of them struggled with substance abuse which in conjunction with comorbidities like pre-existing heart or kidney issues shorten one's life

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.
