Newsom vetoes both the PreP access and the HRT stockpile bill because he is worried it would increase healthcare costs...

He claims to support the aims of these bills. But the vetoes deny access to medical care for queer people.

(Context: He vetoed these 2 while signing 8 other queer rights bills)

He also signed SB 590, which bolsters paid family leave.

WA state already passed an HRT stockpile bill and there is no evidence that healthcare costs have risen significantly because of it.

What are your theories as to why nominally 'liberal' people like Simon Pegg and Matt Berry are willing to work with Rowling?

These people (I use that term loosely) are disgustingly evil. I'm so tired of living in this world that enables them and the horrors they inflict on the rest of us

Trump, speaking in the Israeli parliament, boasts about the weapons the U.S. has provided and says "you obviously used them very well."

I'd also like to add very loosely that I'm open to part time work right now, as I'm considering needing to take on more work to move into a bigger space to move my grandmother in with me temporarily while we search for housing for her. So, this is me putting my hat in whatever rings are out there.

In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

Way too early is very right. We don't even know if we'll have a season, and even if we do, nearly every veteran player is a free agent. No one can make any reasonable predictions at this stage, and pretending to do so is just stupid

There are plenty of justifiable and reality-based reasons not to like the Aces. "it isn't enjoyable to watch A'ja Wilson play basketball" isn't one of them. You're just a hater.

This man is my dad’s age and he was arrested before I was even born.

This is not an institution that can be reformed.

When people recoil from “defund the police” it’s because they believe in a fairy tale where this doesn’t happen every day in every state in America.

Not to say that nothing has changed.

What’s changed however is not suddenly that cops are worse and more corrupt and cruel now.

It is that government surveillance technology has enabled a systematized, mechanized crack down, and they aren’t even trying to hide it from your genteel eyeballs.

The reality of the carceral system in America that liberals don’t want to acknowledge is that rounding up innocent brown people and forcing them into labour camps has been business as usual since America was Britain.
