Other amenity values available by bike but typically not by car include bumping into a friend and saying hello; meeting a new friend en route; learning things about your city other than the freeway entrances and exits, but I digress.
Yes. This is exactly how I think about it. My time spent in active transportation is time I *dont* have to spend going to the gym or otherwise « working out. »

When we look around the globe and even around our own country, there are examples of places that have all but eliminated roadway deaths.

We can here in Minnesota too. It starts with roadway designs that prioritize safety above all else, instead of vehicle speeds as has been the norm for decades.
October is one of the deadliest months for pedestrians. As of Oct. 13, 35 people have died this year while crossing the street in Minnesota. If you’re driving, stop for pedestrians at intersections and crosswalks. It’s the law! Learn more about pedestrian safety: https://bit.ly/3tQOPkU
Two elderly people walk together across a city crosswalk on a sunny day, one using a walker, with a truck stopped nearby.

We're still putting in slip lanes on roads with major walk/bike crossings. I was nearly killed her a week ago by a driver who looked me in the eye and never braked while I had a walk light to cross.
Google streetview image of the intersection at Shepard Road and Lexington Parkway in St Paul. There are 4 lanes of through traffic with 2 turn lanes, one which leads to a slip lane that has a broad crosswalk. The slip lane has a yield sign that most people will ignore.
MNDOT leaders need to stop with the victim-blaming bullshit and face up to the fact that they have continued for decades to build horrifically dangerous *infrastructure* particularly for people outside of motor vehicles.
It’s not dems fault they couldn’t get the pedophiles, pathological liars, grifters, and malignant narcissists! The GOP already got them all.

And higher license and registration taxes.
Ofc, owners of larger vehicles should pay a (much) higher road tax, they are more dangerous, take up more space, and wear out the roads fat more than smaller vehicles.

The govt should raise the tax on them until it is clearly acting as a significant deterrent to people buying them.

Definitely for transit. But I find that for bike trips under about 7 miles, for me the « door to door » time of trips is pretty comparable with what using a car would be. And compared to the Greenline LRT in particular, I can consistently beat it on bike. (Signal priority now!)

Here are 10 cyclists taking up the space of approximately one car.

In London, 60% of car trips are single-occupant

Cycle lanes and cyclists don't cause congestion; cars do
Indeed. I used Dragon Naturally Speaking for many years, but in an office with a door I could close and only a couple nearby officemates to disturb. Even in that setting there were challenges!
Hey, so @cidrap.bsky.social folks, could you have a chat with @governorwalz.mn.gov about getting us on board with this please?

Had to teach myself VLOOKUP, and string-handling in Excel to anonymize a file of Somali names once. Bet today I couldn’t even find the teaching vids online that I needed to do that, grace a AI mucking everything up.
Omg, you’re right! And apology accepted.
I see. Yet there was nothing to correct.
I have accidentally hit the save icon on at least 4 different posts today so it may have been me.
Why dammit? I was just expressing my appreciation of a good post in a topically appropriate way!

I wonder what proportion of those divorces are initiated by a wife who decides she’s sufficiently financially independent to not have to put up with a shitty husband?
My annoyance at all the horrible takes I’ve had to endure today is making me a sexy beast
