I'm happy and proud to announce that today, March 28 2025, I am officially launching my website, PacificHistoryGuide.com!

I look forward to growing this website in the coming years, let's learn some history together!

You’re okay too I guess?
I was talking to the mustache
There’s a few people who inspire me to do great things in public history. KJ is one of them. Here’s someone who is so clearly well-respected, so impassioned in her art, and so obviously a great human being that you can’t help but feel stirred to action. To the moon and stars Kate! Keep pushing.
After the 220th anniversary of Trafalgar, I'm thinking of the little girl taken to see HMS Victory & bought a book on Nelson.

27ish years later I've lectured internationally, including Antarctica & the Falkland Islands. I've delivered talks for the Royal Navy & taught at the US Naval Academy 🧵
Check out my talk on Leyte Gulf, was a lot of fun to join @ww2tv.bsky.social for yet another video. Woody, did we land on a next topic? 🤔 I believe the finalists were the Battle of Surigao Strait, USS Johnston at Samar, or Admiral Shoji Nishimura. Decisions decisions... #PacificHistoryGuide

"Tomb of the Unknown Soldier," a Japanese cartoon (ca 1943) mocking their fallen adversaries in the skies.

"What a strange grave this is.”
“Well, yes, it’s because it belongs to an airman who dove straight down and crashed.”

If you are in Fremantle, Western Australia on Friday, Oct 24, we will be having a What's Going on With Shipping get together at 4 PM at Gage Roads Brew Company.

This is the first of its kind, so I am not sure if anyone will be there...but I will. If you can attend, I look forward to meeting you.
Lots of work this week, but I'm confident it will be worth it. Tune in this Thursday for my talk on Admiral Kurita at Leyte Gulf!

Not excusing this but we watch a lot of sumo in our house and Japanese folks are hardly better at zabuton etiquette. I’ve seen so many people, usually the elderly, use their canes on cushions, rest their feet on the empty in front of them, or even take the unused cushion near them and double up.

That's a wrap for Series 2! A huge thank you to all our listeners in 100 countries for your incredible support. We have been blown away by the response. We will return in January for Series 3 to delve into the pivotal events of 1943! #ForgottenWarPod #BurmaCampaign #WW2History
Excited to announce that I'm returning to @ww2tv.bsky.social to discuss Admiral Kurita at Leyte Gulf. This is one of my favorite subjects to talk about; see you there! #History #NavalHistory #USN #IJN #ImperialJapaneseNavy

Thrilled to get my hands on a copy of this new book about prewar Shintō shrines! Can't wait to read this one.
#Nagoya is a beautiful city and the Chubu Region may be the most diverse of all the various areas of #Japan. Is there a more savvy politician and capable leader in Early Modern Japan than Ieyasu? I’m not so sure. If you’ve been to #Aichi, or are planning to, let us know! #PacificHistoryGuide #名古屋
Sorry mate. Wish I could say something to help ya. I’ve experienced failure and it’s not fun.
Been a #Mets fan for 30 years and there is no team I hate more than the #Phillies. I’ve never felt bad for a player in a Philly uniform. But goddammit, what a brutal way to lose a series. Orion Kerkering if you’re reading this, to make mistakes is human. Hold your head high and get ‘em next time.
Narrator: “and he did, in fact, do something.”
So excited to unwrap these! Sure beats scrolling in a pdf 🤓 #Japan #SWW #WW2 #History #Booksky
A very happy birthday to Enomoto Takeaki, born on this day in 1836. One of my favorite Japanese historical figures, he was a Tokugawa loyalist in the Boshin War and was the first, last and only President of the Republic of Ezo. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Imperial Japanese Navy.
