God I wish I had more time for podcasts. Listening to the first episode of *all* of them leaves me little time to listen to full series. But it does sometimes mean I find cool stuff:

Did the Roll for Impact feed go down?
Have you got a link to your RSS feed?

Given it's primarily mobile nowadays (so many podcast adverts for "free spins!") I suspect it's there, but not necessarily recognised as a separate problem.
Only five?

Impossible.
dating apps should just make men list their top 5 podcasts
Thing is, do we really mean consciousness when we say AI? I'm always a bit "AI just means the computer made a decision", which could be image analysis, predictive text or similar. It's generally a bit messy.
I'm kinda curious whether the cafe is aware of their nature as a podcast nerd haven yet.
My boss went on vacation to Europe, and I requested that he go to Les Deux Magots in Paris to try the hot chocolate so I could live vicariously through him. (I'm a little obsessed with @theameliaproject.bsky.social)

HE BROUGHT ME BACK A CUP AND SAUCER!! 🥹😭😭

I am a very happy podcast nerd.
And it's something I struggle with daily in my quest to catalogue all fiction podcasts. Sometimes it's very difficult to tell whether a podcast is voiced by AI, or just has a recording/editing style that makes it seem like one. Here's my current best guesses:

This is why I'm so opposed to ads on podcasts without a number of downloads gate. Only people who can put out thousands like this can monetise from it, meaning it only makes worse indie podcasts which are getting twenty downloads and no money.
Having seen a different tweet, this *is* the quiet please people. I've been aware of them independently.

Fuck them with a rusty rake.

There's a lot of "Who's this even for" in the replies but the point of this business isn't to build fanbases; it's to crank out a tidal wave of cheap crap and make a little ad revenue off tens of thousands of individual episodes that people listen to accidentally or out of curiosity.
I have started so many podcasts, only to be greeted by the teeth-grinding "welcome to the deep dive" from NotebookLM.

On a podcast search. One uses ads, one uses "value 4 value" (bitcoin).

On thousands of podcasts each.
Again, I keep coming back to the “literally one” rule: you need there to be LITERALLY ONE beloved AI-generated podcast before you’re allowed to peacock around like this.
Nothing ever beat the "Choose Your Own Leyline High Kerfuffle" series, which were evidently named mostly to avoid trademark problems, rather than for clever marketing.

Particularly enjoyed number 14, "The Never Classroom", which accidentally didn't ever end because they stuffed the numbering.
Did you want an RSS feed that's just the first episode of new fiction podcasts?

But you didn't want to listen unless it already has one thousand episodes in the feed?

Good news! Now it does.

I just want the word vodcast to come back into fashion, so people can use that instead.
Meatier bass is what they use so it doesn't get stuck inside you.
Ah no, to be fair. I'm a podcast bloke, so that's what I focused on.
Yep. Everywhere now. And getting sneakier. Though luckily I've still only ever found the one show that tried to give a "credit" to an AI voice as if it were a real person.
Also, if you don't credit your people, it is way easier to suspect AI nowadays. Perhaps not the best motivation, but I want to know you have actual actors.
credit your people. your work would not exist without them. it is easy, free, and the least you could do.

so sorry to thread on a qrt but i care about this so much, as both a podcast producer AND someone who covers podcasts!

if you want someone to write a review of your show THEY NEED THIS
i am once again begging actual play & podcast platforms to please list your cast & staff members somewhere — in your bio, an "about us" page, a pinned post, anything — i promise you it will help you get more clicks, partners, & sponsors in the long run. it adds accessibility & safety to your brand!
