The issues went beyond Gaza and no doubt whatever happens, there will be discussion about the rules relating to voting some way down the track.

Several broadcasters had threatened to boycott Eurovision if Israel's broadcaster remained. One of those, AVROTROS in the Netherlands, has stuck by this call. The others have not yet clarified their position, to my knowledge.

So for context:
- The special vote due in November on whether to expel Israeli broadcaster KAN from Eurovision has been cancelled
- The discussion that had originally been scheduled to take place in December remains
- This does not mean that Israel is definitely in or out of Eurovision.

Statement via The Guardian
“In the light of recent developments in the Middle East, the EBU’s Executive Board (meeting on 13 October) agreed there was a clear need to organize an open and in-person discussion among its Members on the issue of participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. Consequently, the Board agreed to put the issue on the agenda of its ordinary Winter General Assembly, which will be taking place in December, rather than organizing an extraordinary session in advance.”

The EBU had originally planned to discuss this in December and had it been a little quicker on the draw in terms of comms, it could have said that …

Hearing different reports on whether there will still be a vote or not, but the key thing here is that the vote on whether Israel will take part in Eurovision scheduled for November doesn't appear to be happening any more.

🚨 The vote to determine Israel's participation in #Eurovision 2026 will no longer take place in November, the EBU has confirmed today.

Instead, an "open and in-person discussion" will take place at the EBU General Assembly in December. No vote is currently planned.

There's quite a few non-Gaza specific, more contest-related reasons that have caused concern of late. On your point though, while it's inconceivable pre-ceasefire Israel could host (plenty of countries have travel warnings) it could have used the Ukraine precedent to pitch co-hosting.

It feels unlikely to me, given that Israel isn't going to qualify for the World Cup now and given recent developments, that the talk of UEFA getting rid of Israel will re-emerge. The Eurovision broadcasters and EBU are on their own here.

Genuinely quite impressive to get all these parties to agree on anything.

Me when Scotland went 1-0 down vs me at the final whistle.

I still think Greece blew it against Scotland by celebrating as if they’d just won the World Cup over Brazil when they scored. It did not give the impression of a team confident they were better.

I feel Scotland may have been inspired by the Greek goal celebrations, where they acted as if they'd scored against Brazil. Not a sign you're up against world-beaters. #SCOGRE

What's Greek for "whit's the goalie daein' Tam?" #SCOGRE

An absolute all-timer of a goalkeeper f***-up as well, something for everyone. Except Greece.

If the England game is boring you, Scotland v Greece on BBC Two is heating up somewhat.

Fair to say I’m not dismissing the story completely, but I think we’re some way off it being anywhere near confirmed. There’s definitely noise being made for the reasons you suggest.

All I’m saying is a single source in Austria and a website called “Eurovision Fun” citing that source don’t feel like comprehensive verification to me at this stage.

How is it like Eurovision?
