Yes, you can: Be extra kind and respectful towards marginalized folks. We're bombarded with messages that we should be destroyed/disappeared on a daily basis; do everything you can to counteract those harmful messages.

I posted the joke and then worried people would read it wrong, I believe in helping people understand themselves, not forcing anything on anyone. My book has helped a few people understand themselves better and I consider the whole endeavor of writing a success on that account alone.

I made a joke about my book turning people trans but the reality is a fair number of people who have read it have come away with a different understanding of their gender. Jokes aside, it is still an egg-cracking Bacchic hypersigil and an offering to many.

Happy Coming Out Day. I am… so many things. The gender and sexuality ones that are relevant are trans and lesbian and ace and queer. The sexuality labels are sometimes moving targets, the gender ones are pretty settled.

Another queer person told me the other day that they hadn’t heard about what was happening in Chicago and Portland (and didn’t want to know) because they just don’t pay attention to the news these days. Not paying attention at all right now is a choice and not a good one.

Many queer people are trans or otherwise fall into not-cis somehow but not every queer person does. And I think that sometimes it’s important to address things that are specific to specific people. And also this is why, while I will uplift queer people in general, I focus on trans folks.

Often when I talk about trans people folks assume I am talking about all queer people and I am not because there’s shit that trans people have to deal with and experience that cis people don’t, and there are lots of cis queer people. These distinctions matter, differences matter.

Vast, vast majority of trans people aren't going to leave the country. Many can't leave the areas they're currently in.

If trans survival/liberation are something one cares about, at all, that's the reality.

(And no, this is not — in the main — about indviduals leaving the country).

Non-sarcastic follow up to my previous post: I think to be virtuous you need to get messy and dirty because the world is messy and dirty and you can’t help getting a little messy yourself if you roll up your sleeves to do the work of making it a better place.
