Spookiest decoration at the "Zoo Goes Boo" event at the John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids? Giant model of parasitoid wasps hatching from cocoons affixed to their caterpillar host.

Large model of a green caterpillar, the back of which is covered by dozens of white cocoons. Wasps can be seen emerging from some of the cocoons.

Went up to Yachiho Kogen again since I couldn’t say hello to the Lobarias the other time due to heavy rain. It didn’t rain today but the sky was clouded. Autumn has settled in. Photo is the poison ivy which is the first plant to turn fire red.

🐧 Puffin fact #2: Puffins are amazing flyers. They flap their wings up to 400 times a minute, reaching speeds of 55 mph. Underwater, they “fly” through the sea to chase fish!

Inktober Day 9: Heavy
Hercules beetle grubs (which is what little Jellybean here is based on) are some of the heaviest bugs on Earth. Size-wise, some can measure up to 5 inches and weigh more than 100 grams. I love them so much 😭💖
