In both OR & IL, Trump's posts have been central to the litigation--in Portland bc it was the only claimed basis for invasion, and in IL to substantiate the extensive animus (going back to 2013) Trump has towards Chicago.

IL has to file to SCOTUS Monday.

The most upsetting part of this story to me is the line where the Times says it is “unclear” where the money came from.

Under our constitution,
it is either extremely clear where money comes from - a congressional appropriation - or an illegal channel. So so, @nytimes.com

Today’s protest in Charlottesville, VA was twice as big as the Hands Off one—this photo does not even begin to show the size. More and more “regular people” are fed up enough to give up a Saturday to protest. (Also we have Trump officials & GOP to thank for advertising it!)

I can’t even capture the one in Charlottesville, VA which was TWICE as big as last time. We were a quarter mile down, lining the street, from the main group—and there were still tons of people (and chipmunks, unicorns, dinosaurs and aliens).

I appreciated the opportunity to speak with you yesterday.
I welcome further engagement around how we can (a) enhance the long-standing
partnership between the federal government and this country's leading research
universities and (b) ensure that higher education stays focused on academic
excellence. As I shared on the call, I do not believe that the involvement of the
government through a compact--whether it is a Republican- or Democratic-led
White House-
is the right way to focus America's leading colleges and universities
on their teaching and research mission.
Our universities have a responsibility to set our own academic and institutional
policies, guided by our mission and values, our commitment to free expression, and
our obligations under the law. Staying true to this responsibility is what will help
American higher education build bipartisan public trust and continue to uphold its
place as the envy of the world.
We remain open to other ways to work with the federal government to enhance
higher education.
