That's incredibly kind of you. I'll have a think and be in touch
Very cool, in Gloucester we use the presence of the Cheltenham sand and gravel as a possible indicator of palaeolithic material but it's very ad hoc. One day we'll improve
This is great data, do you work with local HERs?

😯 ✨Betjeman described it as 'Holy Air Encased in Stone'.

If you've never visited St. Wystan's in Repton before - deep below the surface - that first glimpse of the C9th Saxon crypt is quite something.
Back at St Oswald's Gloucester, huzzah!
You'll never get planning permission 😁

#SundayStonework figure found c. 150 years ago in Bishop's garden @gloucestercathedral.org.uk is possibly sole remnant of #SaxonSunday Abbey founded there 7th C.
Cruciform halo indicates it is Christ, bird pos figure of holy spirit, border may show Byzantine/Carolingian influence.

Fascinating discussion between @drjaninaramirez.bsky.social, @stroudstory.bsky.social and @andyrpglevum.bsky.social this morning at #GloucesterHistoryFestival about the gorgeous Adoration of the Magi wall painting (c. 1520) at St Mary de Crypt, Gloucester.

Despite widespread claims, there are not many mediaeval pubs still serving. The ones that survive are all inns. The best preserved is the New Inn at Gloucester. We know from tree-ring dating that construction began in 1432 and it was first mentioned in the records in 1455 🧵
I know, and yet planning for these things is actually my job 😂 and we do it all the time.
We weren't stunned. We had a desk based assessment which which said 'its a churchyard' then an evaluation which found human burials. I've rarely been less stunned.
This was at York? Yes I think I can guess who that was
Some wonderful Roman glass work being repacked by volunteers at the @museumofgloucester.bsky.social Store to Store project #Archaeology
I will be involved on Wednesday the 17th between 7.15-8.00pm discussing recent efforts to reinterpret and explain the contested history of George Whitefield in St Mary De Crypt Church. Thought provoking stuff and an issue to be found in many a church and public building.

The Cameron-Osborne years offer an important reminder that it is possible to excel at the theatre of politics - to "look prime ministerial", to dominate the "media narrative", to project "competence" and to communicate a clear political "story" - while being strikingly inept at governing.

Some brilliant work from MoLA on the wall paintings excavated in #southwark published by @archaeologyuk.bsky.social
Hi there, so currently the post excavation work is ongoing. This includes osteological examination of the human remains. So no reburial as yet. As for where the reburial will, ultimately, take place - I'm afraid I don't know. I would approach the UoG if you're keen to find out.
It will return to being the pursuit of the rich.
How much are tuition fees in the UK and is university worth it? - BBC News share.google/KX1PWm9kxnwA... what a state of affairs, I'd never have afforded university these days. Can you imagine starting life with £60k worth of debt! Madness

Tuition fees have risen, while maintenance loans have also gone up to help students with rising living costs.

Also potentially the blueprint for the crypt of St. Oswald's in Gloucester. Founded by what was left of Mercian royalty in the early 10th century.
The entrance to the Anglo-Saxon crypt of St. Wystan’s Church at Repton in Derbyshire. Dating to the 8th century, the crypt served as a royal mausoleum for two Mercian kings, as well as the resting place of St. Wystan. 📸 My own. #SaxonSunday #AngloSaxon #Repton #Derbyshire
Would have been nice 🙂
