Ashley Vaughan, who carries a cane, said that, at around 6 p.m. on September 12, agents standing on the detention facility’s roof shot them in the face and body with pepper balls while they were livestreaming. Vaughan said they briefly lost consciousness. When they came to, they saw approximately 15 to 20 agents leaving the detention facility and attempting to push protesters back.

“I was trying to get up,” they said. “[The agents] were probably about a foot in front of me as they were shooting at me.” Vaughan said a few protesters tried to help them up and that agents shot at all of them at least 10 more times. “I couldn’t see for a few days due to the swelling. I had two black eyes. I’m lucky I didn’t lose my vision,” Vaughan said. Vaughan’s wounds took several weeks to heal.

Pro-tip: if you have video of you or others directly intervening to obstruct ICE or de-arrest someone, for god’s sake don’t post it on social media. Or at a minimum blur faces first. You’re just begging for federal charges.

Also consider: reading someone's bio for information about something you see. Is this person close to the source of what's happening? Are they physically there? Or are they a video aggregator account that posts trauma porn clickbait all day long?

Instead of scolding people doing their best during this emergency, consider: helping instead! You can do alt text for people on the ground. You can point things out on maps or verify videos for people who are confused. There is absolutely stuff you can do from home to improve information quality.

I’m currently at the entrance to Coast Guard Island where National Guard troops and ICE agents are being housed prior to their deployment on the Bay Area. Couple hundred people are here blocking access in and out. Lots of faith leaders here who are praying at the edge of the property line.

ICE and CBP are kidnapping people all over the city and suburbs today—our new "normal."

The Sun-Times is reporting Border Patrol took at least two teenage boys today when they hit Little Village, again.

One is said to be a 16-year old student, U.S. citizen, and student at Benito Juarez Community Academy.
