In my experience, no. There are some great independent theaters around—the Jinbocho Theater comes to mind—but most major multiplexes here only play the biggest movies, and those seem to play forever.

That all sounds incredible. My first introduction to Kurosawa and Mifune was via a retrospective film festival at an independent theater in Minneapolis around 20 years ago.

I’ve seen a majority of Kurosawa’s films in the theater (via film festivals, etc), but this is one I have yet to see on the big screen. I can’t wait!

Speaking of Cameron and AI, there was a whole long ad for his new Avatar movie yapping about how it’s not created by computers but by the human actors doing the motion capture work. It certainly felt like he was working overtime to cover up his real intent.

I think for most people in creative fields, you can tell which side they (would) fall on based on their work, even if it’s from before the generative bullshit was a thing.
