It was #portfolioday the other day and I never posted.

My name’s Andrew Browne. I’m an illustrator and comic book artist based in Sapporo, Japan.
Great story so far. I added this to my list a while back after seeing @patrickzircher.bsky.social recommend it.

Given that I’m working toward getting published in Japan, I’ve decided to close my online store; I just simply don’t have the time to run the store and ship things on my own, and it was an ever-growing cost to maintain.

My online portfolio will remain as is.

If you don’t train enough people to understand narratives and how they shape the world, they will be at the mercy of the powerful who do. It’s the perfect weapon, because they don’t even know they’re being had

Cory Doctorow has summed up a lot of ideas on why A1 is bad and how we can fight it. There’s an incredible amount of insight here that’s well worth reading.

Belfast Christmas market bans sale of AI-generated art.

In Belfast, the battle between technology and tradition is playing out at an artists’ market. Organisers of the Christmas fair have banned AI-generated artwork, insisting on "human creativity" as artificial intelligence floods the art world

Unsubscribe. Go to the theater. Buy physical media. Meet people in real life. Enjoy the arts.

Surprisingly, this has been a sentiment shared by several friends I’ve met over the last few days.
Talking with my dad earlier day, we’re both at the point where we wish we never had to use a smartphone or computer in day-to-day life.

Likewise, still own my CDs/vinyl, I give my money directly to artists when they release stuff I can procure directly from them and I subscribe to nothing. The advent of digital is for artists to self distribute and put an end to suits making the profits and having a say over creativity/availability.

Ah yes, the people who can’t fathom that fiction is not actually real life. Always great arguments there.

Nicki Minaj at the United Nations is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life, and given what my life has been like, that’s a breathtaking and terrifying race to win.

I passed the license conversion road test today here in Japan (from my American license to a Japanese license). Given the time of year, I thought I could avoid the snow, but I wasn’t so lucky. But with plenty of experience driving in icy conditions, it wasn’t a problem!
