For the Shadow of the Colossus story, we interviewed 14 people including project leads Fumito Ueda and Kenji Kaido, hired Gravity Rush concept artist Takeshi Oga to illustrate the cover, and put together a 10,000-word story with help from @milkman.bsky.social @shmuplations.bsky.social and others.
Shadow of the Colossus: An oral history
Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Team Ico’s masterpiece by looking back with 11 people who worked on it (and three who didn’t).

People do not contain a boolean Has Mental Health Problems/Has No Mental Health Problems toggle. By treating "mental health problems" as a quality that is either present in a person or not, he implicitly fully forecloses the possibility of mental illness as a state that may be acquired/induced

"We have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues" is the really big lie x liability faultline but I think the casual invocation of "users who [have] no mental health problems" as a category of real existing human is also worth scrutinising

Oh good, ChatGPT is getting "erotica for verified adults" later this year
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

I haven't got around to checking out the show yet, sorry. But the theme tune's a banger so it is jumping up the queue

Do you have any idea how many metal songs there are about Warhammer
mangmangmang.bsky.social
People are always rightly pointing out that Warhammer contributes more to the British economy than the fishing industry, but the problem is that there just aren't very many folk songs about Warhammer

Harry Potter didn't, in the end, encourage people to read, it just encouraged them to read Harry Potter.

To be clear: the decision to deny most people in the UK the covid vaccine is related to money, *not* based on a public health concern. In other words, Labour did not allocate enough money for covid vaccines so their "cost-effectiveness" end up the determining factor. www.gov.uk/government/p...
For the development of advice relating to COVID-19 vaccination from autumn 2025, JCVI has resumed the use of a standard cost-effectiveness assessment, in line with other routine vaccinations in the national immunisation programme and the JCVI code of practice. The advice is based on modelling of the impact and cost-effectiveness of vaccination where clinical outcomes are stratified by age, high-risk clinical disease groups and patients with immunosuppression. The use of cost-effectiveness is a key pillar in the consideration of immunisation programmes, ensuring that the substantial investments in the programmes are a good use of public money, and that those funds would not be better spent on other healthcare interventions. This has led to a more refined approach to the targeting of the COVID-19 immunisation programme, with a focus on individuals where there is good evidence of a high risk of hospitalisation and/or mortality.

always been fascinated by the Spectator's byline caricatures because it's like the artist has chosen to represent the writers' inner lives, showing us who they truly are, these weird deformed uncanny creatures with absolutely deranged opinions. bizarrely revealing

Still looking for someone, haven't found a single person so far (that I can contact). I have a 46-episode script that I need translated. This would be a paid job!

Completely unrelated to my 2am doomposting but does anyone know an English to Japanese translator, ideally with experience in screenplays?

one thing LLMs have revealed is that the belief that there is a magical incantation that will give you what you want is not just confined to pick-up artists and freemen on the land
desfitzgerald.bsky.social
Seeing people nonchalantly post stuff like makes me feel like I'm going crazy honestly.
A post from an academic on blue sky that says: "I'm learning about "prompt engineering" when asking LLMs to extract data. I now add this to all instructions:

Be concise, analytic, and specific (cite page/figure if provided). If essential info is missing, keep going but flag Unclear and exact data needed. Never invent data.

i am so ready for quantum to be the next dumb buzzword the tech industry forces everyone to pretend to care about. "how are you incorporating quantum into your daily work?" i'm not but it's so refreshing you asked me a new and different stupid question

Saw a post on here that claimed he adds himself as a producer on films, donating a few million to essentially buy himself leading or supporting roles. No idea if it's true, but it's the only explanation for his continued presence in big films that makes sense to me

I think you can definitely chart the impact of Gridlink's sound through Wormrot's discography, weirdly. First two albums are Riff City (complimentary), the most recent ones have been more complex in both technique and emotionality
analgender.bsky.social
I can see that. As much as I'm not a fan of power metal there's absolutely a power metal influence in there, too. Just with a much different emotional affect

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"
