Terrifying unless you’re into 1940s Aryan iconography
I made an image of all the art posted by US DOL on X since approximately Labor Day
Dude stole your idea, which is awkward because he stripped the satire and made it bizarrely earnest

I hope someday we defeat fascism and in the far future, No Kings Day is celebrated as a federal holiday, and little children leave out dance mixtapes and cookies for the Resistance Frog, who leaves pocket Constitutions in their shoes.
This is basically the same column as Ross Douthat’s in the NYT! 😬

I was 16-17 in 1983 and The Day After was ROUGH. Some years earlier, the Holocaust miniseries was also rough. As was Roots in 1977. Network TV was brave back then.
Note to non-Chicagoans: There are raids like this *every day, multiple times a day*, hitting various neighborhoods, mainly (but not exclusively) targeting Latinos. Operation Midway Blitz has led to thousands of people being detained by ICE.
Due up next (library wait list for ebook): @rbreich.bsky.social's memoir, "Coming Up Short." My Saturday morning viewing each week is his "Koffee Klatch" with Heather Lofthouse--talking about the week that was, the way forward, some encouragement not to lose hope in the fight to preserve democracy.
I'm reading @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social's book, "Everything Is Tuberculosis." I like the interweaving of sexism, issues for people with chronic disease, and so on. And some poetry! I've always enjoyed nonfiction books relating to infectious disease epidemiology.

‘Under the terms of the cease-fire, which has already been sorely tested, 600 trucks of aid were supposed to enter Gaza daily. But since the fighting stopped, according to the United Nations, fewer than 100 trucks have arrived on average every day. Gazans are destitute.
The whataboutism on Gaza really rankles, especially for those of us who have spent our careers reporting on the crises Israel's defenders cynically invoke as so much worse than Gaza. I wrote about how it actually compares, and what the true toll may be. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/23/o...

Is “roly-poly” specifically American?
I like to think that this map of all the regional names for woodlice in the UK could also be a map illustrating the new tribes of humans to be found on the same landmass after The Great Digital Crash and ensuing breakdown of society.
I’d like to see a roundup of all the things Trump says “Can you believe it?” about. Is every single one a fraud?

pair this with that thing he said a month or two ago about how he can blame anything he doesn't like on a.i.
Trump: "They cheated on a commercial. Ronald Reagan loved tariffs and they said he didn't. And I guess it was AI or something. They cheated badly. Canada got caught cheating on a commercial. Can you believe it?"

Sure, if people can get awards posthumously, they can go to the movies too
This is the Catholic church in my neighborhood.
Went to a prayer service tonight at St. Mary of the Lake, where they have cardboard cutouts throughout the church representing parishioners afraid to come to Mass because of ICE.

If you are in or around Chicago, I have been informed that the "C" has fallen off the sign on the Canal Street Bridge.

Enjoy.
