Okay, it is far from comprehensive, and there are other albums and soundtracks I've yet to acquire, but here's a solid collection of songs on my Halloween playlist. I didn't include some artists I have on my list from before I or we knew about their bullshittery,

Thanks for another insightful chat! To kind of tie back today's theme, in my LWF series, power and oppression play major roles, particularly with regards to misogyny and ableism. You can find Little White Flowers lots of places, including the UMaine Bookstore (pictured below)!

Every week horror writers from all around gather to chat for over an hour. No drama. No quarrels. Just good banter. In this thread are many books and things you can find from these writers. Just click and scroll. Happy hunting and I hope you all have a great week! x

Here we go, #HorrorWriterChat, the chance you've all been waiting for. Let's pimp our books.
And if you could share others, get them seen as well, that would be good.
Finally, I would love it if you could repost some of Matt's posts. He's having a rough time and could do with a boost.
Tanks.
there is no algorithm here, so visibility depends on engagement with others.
hit the questions, use the hashtag, share other writer’s stuff.
finally, have you got something to shout about? Now’s your chance.

My extreme horror novel IN THE DOLLHOUSE WE ALL WAIT (Island of Dr. Moreau x Criminal Minds) takes 'the rich really are different' to the cruelest and most horrifying conclusions. When no one tells a grown little girl 'no,' what won't she do?

Coming out in 2026 (month TBA).

The supernatural usually stems from desperation in my stories. When you have no access to mental health or disability services due to lack of funds, the darkness creeps in in many forms, and that includes monstrous ones.
Check on your poor/working class friends. They need it.

Q4.
Do hang around for the outro, in around 10 minutes.

Which is the easier route? Or the more satisfying?

Q4
In your stories: is desperation scarier than the supernatural?

I'm a Eat The Rich girlie head to toe, so I will always write stories where the rich get their comeuppance.

Although, there's this one story I wrote where riches were used in order to exact vengeance on rapists and abusers in the form of a torture banquet 😇

#HorrorWritersChat Q3.

Who do you scare? As a writer, it's our chance to bite back, perhaps.
Q3
Do you write horror that scares the poor, the wealthy or everyone equally?

I've been getting away from the supernatural being villainized. if I have an evil supernatural character, they represent something else, an old way of thinking corrupting the modern day, outdated concepts that hurt society, that sort of thing. Did I even answer that question, #HorrorWritersChat?

I think part of it is that we don't hold the same standards for a supernatural element like a monster or spirit that we do for people. A monster is just doing what it does. A ghost is spiritually ill, in its own way. But we hold people accountable, because they know better.
amandamblake.bsky.social
My extreme novels have no supernatural elements. There's nothing more terrifying to me than humans being unutterably cruel. The survival stakes feel higher when it's more real, plausible. I like to examine the question of what terrible things people are willing to do to survive.

The mirror of my stories would scare the obscenely rich straight, in the vein of Ebenezer Scrooge, if they had shame. But they don't. So I think I write for those of us who look at their inhumanity, the hole in their hearts they try to patch with gold, with utter horror.

The Thorns series is different in that my MC is uncommonly wealthy as an artist. (The Beast is rich as God, though.) My MC loves sharing her wealth, bc having money is just her means to do her art as she likes, but she gets a taste of losing everything in Book 4 and 5.
amandamblake.bsky.social
I tend to write about obscenely wealthy people from the perspective of MCs brought into that world against their will--so close they can touch it, but it can never be theirs. They are, in fact, just another commodity within the household, captive.

Q2. So many of you are diving in courageously. I salute you. Don't worry, now we go more abstract.
#HorrorWritersChat
Q2
How does scarcity or deprivation shape the worlds you build in your stories?
amandamblake.bsky.social
There's precedent in our family, and we live together well. There are concessions, but that's to be expected. I think I act as a bridge between their personalities, and we all help each other. I plan to be their caregiver for as long as can in return.
amandamblake.bsky.social
Amanda M. Blake, apothecarist of dark potions. You'll find love spells in with the poisons, but they're all of them dangerous.

I'm in a weird place, poor but living comfortably with family, so with a safety net and creature comforts. Don't live well alone, am grateful for help.

Oh right then here we go, if it glitches I'll wait till it's back up then fire the next.
Can't say fairer than that. Hi #HorrorWritersChat, let's talk riches. Or poverty. Moral or cash, I don't mind which.
Horror is one of the more egalitarian genres I think. More room for poor...

No links please.
Question One
Assemble, horror bods!
Tell me what kind of horror you write, and how poor are you - financially or morally? You choose....

Ahh, I wrote almost 800 words this afternoon instead of the 500 that I thought I did, so that makes this evening much easier. Way to go, afternoon me.

Transness is not bourgeois. This is a wedge idea dreamed up by some gleefully amoral think tank lobotomite to split trans people and make us fight each other. That we relay on modern medicine doesn't make us any more bourgeois than someone who needs antidepressants or cleft palate repair.

I watched KNOCK AT THE CABIN a few weeks ago. I wish they'd kept the original title. I was generally underwhelmed by the performances, except for Groff and Bautista. I don't know, I think the underacting style MNS encourages doesn't always work. It felt like going through the motions.

So far TODAY Israel has:

- bombed Gaza City
- bombed Khan Younis
- shot and killed five Palestinians in Gaza City
- refused to open the Rafah border crossing
- announced they would once more block aid

This is what a "ceasefire" with Israel looks like. This is what it has always looked like.
