Ink Ribbon Red, my second novel, is now out in paperback in the UK. Here are some of my favourite lines (quote cards made by my wonderful US publisher - the book is out in the US next month):
A quote from the novel Ink Ribbon Red by Alex Pavesi. “Phoebe had never seen bullets up close before; to her, they looked like fetal mushrooms, or primitive chess pieces.” A quote from the novel Ink Ribbon Red by Alex Pavesi. “After hanging up the phone, Marcin stamped on the accelerator. But he couldn't escape everyone else's bad driving, no matter how fast he went.” A quote from the novel Ink Ribbon Red by Alex Pavesi. ‘"Grief," said Anatol, with a surge of enthusiasm. "Grief is an awkward portmanteau of guilt, regret and disbelief.
Because those are its three main ingredients."’ A quote from the novel Ink Ribbon Red by Alex Pavesi. “A heavy, late-morning mist lay on the landscape. Every blade of grass looked haunted.”

Again: Britain (not just this government but all of the recent ones) has a problem with knowledge work. Fishing, steel are manly proper jobs with a Victorian sense of place and history. Creative industries & HE are treated as secondary; derided or ignored.
This. An emergency recall of parliament on a weekend for British Steel. Nothing at all for UK HE which employs far more people, has already shed 10,000 academic jobs, with several institutions on the brink of collapse.

A reminder: we train all the doctors, teachers, engineers, nurses, lawyers &c &c
British Steel employs 3.6k people. Coventry Uni group, which auditors say may not survive, employs 7.7k. But there is an emergency debate in parliament for British Steel and nothing for the whole HE sector imploding

Absolutely adore Alex’s deft, brilliantly intricate novels (treat yourself to Eight Detectives or Ink Ribbon Red if you haven’t already) so this has made my Monday.
I've just finished Death at the White Hart, by @chrischibnall.bsky.social, a top-tier murder mystery that is equal parts creepy and compulsive. Out in the UK later this week!
Six days till Death at The White Hart is published in the UK. 📚💙⚡️
Thanks Chris! I look forward to seeing DatWH on TV! 🙏

it genuinely sucks that basically nothing on the internet works well anymore. search? barely works. social media? filled with garbage engagement-bait designed to game the algorithm. news websites? pages that refresh at random or so covered in video ads that it’s impossible to read stories

Amused myself with this today (I am easily amused, as we know)
A display header that says ‘The Intriguing Actions of Unusual Name’ A small selection of books on display with titles like The Infernal Riddle of Thomas Peach and The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox
Ah, glad you found it interesting! Thanks for reading
Thanks for reading, Doug! Leo looks very sweet 🐈‍⬛

So chuffed to be part of this excellent collection.
I've been a bit rubbish with #BertVent this year... We've still been doing it, but I've forgotten to tell you what they are.

So we're gonna do a mega-thread!

These are the books I've enjoyed the most in this year. Each day during December, we've given one away!
24 books wrapped up and positioned on Bert's bookshelves.

All of these books are, of course, available to order at bertsbooks.co.uk

We accept National Book Tokens (should you get any in the next couple of days) and you'll get free delivery across the UK.

Exciting.

What a fantastic list to be included in ❤️
Ink Ribbon Red by @alexpavesi.bsky.social is another cleverly constructed murder mystery from the author of Eight Detectives.

Don't take my word for it, though, Michael, our resident crime aficionado also loved it.

Email from publisher. Anyone think this is okay ? No, it’s not okay. I’ve spent more money on promo than they’ve sent me royalties. Whereas, the audiobook rights are mine and have paid me way more. This is such a c%nt email.

I would say The Sound and The Fury but it's definitely the less accessible of the two.
