FWIW…

If anyone can let Evan know that we would love to have him on for a chat, we absolutely won’t cut his mic.

Our DM’s are open and our email is in our description.

At tonight’s “consultation”…

When a high school kid tried to raise concerns about the teachers strike, Bruce McAllister cut the kids mic and then suggested his parents should have beaten him more.

Listen to the clip yourself…

It’s…

Telling.

The Alberta Teachers' Association has officially filed strike notice. Unless a negotiated settlement can be reached at the bargaining table, teachers will be on strike beginning October 6.

To have a panel led by the premier indulging in these ideas is simply shameful.": Lisa Young

Teachers don’t want to strike. They want to teach.

But the UCP has pushed them to the brink by refusing to invest in classrooms, ignoring basic needs, and treating bargaining like a political game.

Supporting public education means supporting the people who make it possible. #BetterisPossible

After years of advocacy, applications for the $200/month Canada Disability Benefit opened today.

But the only provincial govt in Canada that will keep its citizens with disabilities from actually benefiting from it is the UCP.

They are the only ones clawing it back.

It’s cruel & shameful.

As of September, there will be more bureaucratic hurdles for guest presenters to speak to Alberta students about sexual health, and sexual orientation and gender identity. Alberta Education must also vet any resource teachers plan to use on these topics: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #AbEd #AbLeg
New rules see province screening sex education resources before they hit classrooms | CBC News
Alberta school leaders and groups that deliver school sex education presentations are preparing for new rules taking effect this fall that require the government to first vet all information.

Announcing you're going to build 90 new schools isn't a flex.

It's an admission of failure.

It's writing-off a generation lost to overcrowded classrooms that you can never get back. You failed those kids and their future.
Graph 2 here is the scenario with no new school construction - which isn't going to happen because the province has announced a plan to construct 90 new schools in the next seven years (across Alberta). #AbEd #yeg #AbLeg

Tl;DR, the pace of school construction and modernization/replacement is not keeping pace with enrolment growth in Edmonton public schools.

With Alberta staring down the barrel of a vote on separation, I've been revisiting research on the 1995 Quebec Referendum.

Here are 5 key lessons we ought to learn. And quickly.

ER wait times are up. Clinics are closing.
A million Albertans can't get a doctor.

Danielle Smith calls that success.
We call it failure. Alberta deserves better.
