This is exactly the thing I mean by the left’s understanding of protest operating on cargo cult mentality. We look at what people do in other countries and say “Why don’t we do that here?” and it’s because protests in other countries are shaped to their conditions on the ground.

Unfortunately, we are *not* a sparsely populated country with a few key arteries, at least not physically. And the other key arteries we do have (industrial, economic, etc) are not well organized in our ideological direction.

I think liberal protests are ultimately playing a long game of popular dissent that will really only pay off in either electoral mobilization or the regime being provoked into indefensible violence. we can't judge them a success yet but we sure as hell can't brand them a failure

For what it’s worth, it feels like both liberal and leftist protests have a little cargo cult mentality to them. Everyone understands marching the streets, but liberals seem to forget that it’s more than that, and leftists seem to think if you’re not smashing stuff it’s not a real protest

I agree, which is why even if I roll my eyes at some of the things I see at them, I still encourage people to go. If nothing else it gets you outside and talking to people. If you believe in radicalizing folks then go to the place where there are folks to radicalize!
