Six months ago this morning, I was out with my kids, on the way to the park. I knew the collection of police vehicles along Wellington Cres signaled tragedy on a dangerous stretch of road, but my heart sank when I saw Rob Jenner’s mangled bike laying alongside a stretch we traveled regularly.
Police vehicles block Wellington Cres at Grosvenor Rob Jenner’s bike lays mangled along Wellington Cres with police evidence numbers placed on and nearby. The rear wheel is bent horribly out of shape.

Totally appreciate the clarity of a driver being there and not turning unexpectedly, this is a big plus.

If you’re wondering who to vote for in the upcoming Elmwood-East Kildonan council byelection, you could do much worse than asking “who does Marty Gold oppose?”

It feels like it exists less for cyclist safety, and more to push the driver out of the way of other drivers who wish to go straight, so they don’t miss their light.
akohan.bsky.social
My main beef with this design is that it encourages cyclists to choose between a dangerous weave around the driver, or waiting and likely missing the light. And so often a driver takes the right turn position even when pedestrians queued for the crosswalk mean the driver will have to wait anyway.

Dear Toronto: We will stop scoring runs this game if Doug Ford agrees to stop tearing out bike lanes. Until then, the runs will continue.

Not sure I understand — cars coming from westbound Corydon while the driver in question is making a right on red, or cars coming from northbound Harrow?
akohan.bsky.social
Look at all that driver education!
akohan.bsky.social
I’m a big fan of immovable objects as a replacement for driver education (they also do some educating of their own, in a way).
akohan.bsky.social
Ah, true - but I think they’re phasing out this traffic design because it’s so dangerous.
akohan.bsky.social
But that’s not who would have the right of way — bikes going through the intersection have the right to do so before cars turning.
akohan.bsky.social
Why would you be looking left for cars? Left turns from the opposing lane?

Why would a billionaire want a functioning paper? Functioning papers cover shit like “did you know this billionaire makes his workers pee into bottles instead of taking a break” and “you pay way more tax than a guy with ten yachts”

Statement from AG Pam Bondi:
Statement from AG Pam Bondi:

“Today following outreach from the DOJ, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target ICE agents in Chicago.

The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.”

The hazard of asking “how would you treat a crosswalk” when explaining driving rules about bike lanes is, of course, that most drivers don’t follow the law about yielding to crosswalks, either.
akohan.bsky.social
The analog is that the cross walk is also a parallel lane of travel for a different mode, and the requirement is to not turn across it until it is clear.

Most of the new bike lane plans include physical barriers to prevent this, even where there isn’t separation during the rest of the road’s run, because you’re not supposed to do this - it drives bike traffic around into the road. The procedure is to wait to turn until the bike lane clears.

This is also part of why they’re so committed to the Charlie Kirk thing, even though it doesn’t fit the narrative they’d like.

… no, its not the people, its basic physics of colder weather, closed windows, & a build up of airborne pathogens

one response to this (correct) observation is to say “well, the cops will attack you no matter how you dress and behave.” that’s right. images of cops and ICE beating grandmas and kids in inflatable frog costumes is a win for the opposition.

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.

Yes it's annoying that conservatives are lying about and trying to suppress this weekend's rallies, but as far as I can remember there was virtually no mainstream or conservative media coverage in advance of the first one and now they're talking about it constantly. That's a good sign.

They are terrified of the No Kings rallies and doing everything they can to discredit them.

If you're on the fence about going, just think of how much it'll piss off these assholes.
