It’s not even benefiting Argentina; it’s just benefiting Milei
Damn! Só they invented firearms & then immediately forgot how archery worked?
(Not disagreeing with you; just being a pedant)
Still with the volley fire? How long has this been a trope?!
Hating America by condemning monarchy?
Funny that the Trump people don’t seem to understand that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, given that that’s exactly how Trump came to power
Parenting is pedantry by other means
I mean the logic of “I couldn’t find these statistics in graph form, so I took a break from teaching/writing/translating/parenting/influencing to make that”
Bret being an incorrigible polymath, as always
For all the (well-justified) concern about this country’s deteriorating civ-mil separation, cops have long been much more heavily enmeshed in politics, & that seems just as dangerous…

This should be one of the requirements for opening the government. The longer the shutdown continues, the more Dems should add to the list.
Sens. Schumer, Merkley, Murray, and Peters are calling for the resignation of OMB Director Russell Vought.

"By impounding billions of dollars … and aggressively pursuing the illegal use of pocket rescissions, Vought has done everything in his power to gut the federal government piece by piece."
If they wrote a long opinion, they might create precedent that a future Democratic president could use
“If this is so, which it is” what…?!
Literally exactly why I use “chicanery” so much!
And it means packing the courts so they don’t get up to this chicanery…
It’s basically a gimmick that lets the courts avoid hard questions when they feel like it; they can be incredibly creative about finding there is standing when they do want to decide something
I think they intend to help keep MAGA in power forever. They may fail, but they’re not some neutral third-party
Thinking about when Trump tweeted that “states are an arm of the federal government”
See also Germany in 1914: “we have to start a two-front war so that we don’t get overwhelmed in a two-front war”
In fairness, it’s not like he actually wrote it

I'm convinced that at least 75% of the discourse on The Life of a Showgirl has little to do with the album itself. It's an above-average record that's neither a masterpiece nor a bomb and being leveraged by many solely as a useful proxy for folks' competing resentments with the world and each other.

Realists will go on and on about how Russia can't help but feel threatened by NATO expansion but will never consider that their theory, if applied universally, also explains why former Soviet republics and Warsaw Pact states would want to join NATO.
