What is at the heart of #WeMakeTomorrow?

Our Founder Alison Tickell reminds us why cultural voices matter in the climate conversation.

Join artists, artivists & cultural leaders, united in climate action, by signing the Global Call today >> www.wemaketomorrow.global

In San Antonio it would be around $15/hr.
Already see familiar names on the list of signatories, friends from classes and from Longhorn Band - proud of my fellow alumni for speaking out about this ridiculous and potentially tragic choice our alma mater is considering.
@climateheritage.bsky.social member Lori Ferriss of Built Buildings Lab came to San Antonio earlier this year to show off the CARE tool for comparing the carbon impact of reuse, retrofits, and new construction. #climateheritage

This is another space where culture needs to lead the way to climate solutions. Food ways and practices are important parts of community identity. Rather than be a barrier, we must/will help foster real, lasting change. It's happening and we need to accelerate. @climateheritage.bsky.social
Yes, dietary choices have an impact on our use of resources.
So do choices of irrigation technologies. And where certain crops are grown. And the vast wastes & inefficiencies in the food processing and distribution system. And what goes bad in our kitchens.
Actions in all these areas are important.
Meat is a blind spot for people who care about climate. When I used to have dinner with my colleague Wally Broecker, the climate scientist who coined the term “global warming”, he would always order a steak.

Recentering this morning after many days away from home. Breathing and practicing gratitude for the experiences and knowledge shared with me in Milwaukee, NYC, and Barcelona.

Late to this but wanted to throw in the CARE tool as a resource (among the many others already shared here!) for calculating the impact of decarbonizing existing buildings. I'm sure Indiana's own @andrewspotts.bsky.social would love to see something like this happen there!

"By looking to stories of seasonality and sustenance, as well as the example of reciprocity between distant peoples that the history of the Choctaw Gift illustrates, we can reconsider our relationships to peoples, plants, and places."

15 yrs ago I had the privilege of hearing Dr. Jane Goodall address geographers in DC. She explained how preserving cultural practices of indigenous communities also benefitted chimpanzee conservation. #climateheritage
She's part of the reason Z's middle name is Jane. May her memory be a blessing.
I have long suspected this truth, and regretfully I must confirm its veracity now that I have met my colleagues in person for the very first time - they are genuinely and unapologetically hilarious.

Culture belongs at the heart of climate action and we will not wait, we will lead as we imagine (and manifest) just, low carbon, climate resilient futures!
Dispatch from Simon Musasizi, Regional Co-Chair for the Africa and Arab States, who is in Barcelona this week for @uclg.bsky.social Culture Summit and @unesco.org #Mondiacult.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 This is an appreciation post for translators. Your work is crucial in facilitating these international dialogues on climate and culture. I am so grateful for your expertise. That is all. ❤️❤️❤️
The word coal evokes childhood memories of works by Charles Dickens, Frank McCourt, Anna Sewell, Frances Hodgson Burnett - hell, even the movie October Sky - that use it as a marker of poverty, misery, desperation, and squalor.
Imagine explaining this news to Oliver Twist.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Fox: "We're announcing today expanded programs to help the American coal industry. We're helping it because for years it has been under assault. It was out of fashion with the chardonnay set in San Francisco, Boulder, and NYC ... coal just makes the world go round."
Yesterday was magical and motivating. Can't wait to share more about the Third High Level Ministerial Dialogue on Culture-based Climate Action - but first, more Barcelona joy!

Good morning Barcelona! Here for @uclg.bsky.social and @unesco.org convenings, of course championing climate action through culture-based solutions with so many of my favorite @climateheritage.bsky.social leaders and other amazing partners!

Thank you Ethiel, Carl, and James Lindberg for your perseverance in carrying forward this critical work, the most important effort our generation will endeavor to achieve.
Listening to fellow travelers muse about why TSA is here at our gate checking IDs again before we board - even here in TX ppl know it's a childish show of force, schoolyard bully tactics of intimidation, unnecessary, fashy. Houston, we have a problem. 😡
