Lincoln Square Road Closure and Accompanying Comments From The Local Facebook Page (April 2025)
Picture of kids and adults gathering on Lincoln Square, playing jump rope. Text overlay saying "I will never understand the appeal of playing in a street" Picture of Chicagoans of all ages lounging on Lincoln square, enjoying a beautiful spring day. The sun is out and there is chalk art covering the ground. In the foreground a man in sunglasses sits on a yellow bench. Text from a local facebook group reads "It's really unfortunate that they feel the need to create this kind of chaos for the community, our square, and the small businesses trying to thrive here, this feels like a targeted effort."
a man blows bubbles for a group of children playing in Lincoln Square, the kids are jumping and pointing at the bubbles. many adults are circled around watching. A quote from the Lincoln Square facebook page reads "FORGET ABOUT IT. Ban kids from playing in the street." A wide shot of Lincoln Square. People are congregating in the road, lined up to patronize local businesses, or sitting on the curb watching neighbors stroll by. A truncated facebook comment states "how dare you... People like you in this community absolutely disgust me."
How visible are these at night? do they get backlit?
"The budget would also generate an additional $47.3 million by expanding a program to use cameras mounted on city vehicles and CTA buses to fine owners of cars parked in bicycle and bus lanes, according to the proposal."

CTA is still full steam ahead on staffing, adding 15 rail operators and 38 bus drivers in September.
CTA Rail Operators - 895 as of Sept. 2025 CTA Bus Operators - 4,220 as of Sept 2025.
CTA taking their next big step in the smart streets pilot. Up until now, fines had mainly been coming from just 4 cameras that I believe are tied to Dept of Finance vehicles.

I agree it can probably work fine in places with smaller vehicles, better visibility, lower default speeds, and better social norms!
If someone doesn’t slow at all on approach and has to hard stop to avoid a collision, would you count it as a yield?
I’ve spent some time in residential areas with a yield sign only setup and the result was mostly cars never yielding and only slowing for other cars in the intersection at the last possible second

2026 Illinois Attorney General election is in 13 months. There are currently no declared challengers to Raoul in the dem primary.
Raoul:
“If you are exercising your 1st Amendment rights ... you have a responsibility to do so peacefully and lawfully. Lawful, peaceful protest does not involve the destruction of property, nor does it involve obstructing federal, state or local law enforcement, or impeding traffic. (2/2)
Wells to Ping Tom through the 78 is a (semi) accessible bike route right now. Worried the plaque is going to be multiple mayors old by the time the road actually opens.

Weren’t the old parking mandates a big inhibitor on coach houses before? Feels like that hurdle got fixed and immediately replaced with a new one for of much of the city.

Was around 10-deep in a nice line of bikes and scooters squeezing past standstill car traffic on Kingsbury today. Would be nice to have any bike infra whatsoever over here to meet the demand!

We should add the Cool Building on top of every 1st-floor retail spot along Broadway
Sun hits a mid rise residential building on Broadway. Vendor tents sit below in the street.
Posted speed limits in Chicago having almost no correlation to prevailing average speeds feels so corrosive to driving behavior.

Unenforced 55MPH limits on the interstates built for and treated like 75MPH roads is bad.

30MPH is an insane default speed for tight residential one-ways.
