Tomorrow is Columbo's Day, so remember to eat the traditional chili dogs, wear your best disheveled raincoat, and above all, don't let any rich assholes get away with anything

also, as always, these are my views, I am by no means A Decider.

I don't think coefplots/forestplots/whatever other names plots are always the best move, but for quickly summarizing across lots of models, they're okay. Still, have the tables ready, imo.

Works in mono, anchoring the ref category w a marker at zero is a nice touch (always at the top of section would be good, too, imo), could use an annotation abt CI/error bar meaning. But I imagine it's posted out of context a bit here. For the audience it's meant to reach (academic), fine dataviz.

Promoting the editor-in-chief's personal side project. Zero named sources in a story that promotes the editor-in-chief's personal political position. Misspelling the subject's name. It took one day for CBS News to become a conservative blog.

My research team is presenting a paper on US business & the trade war at the upcoming International Political Economy Society conference at UCLA.

For this paper we pre-registered a causal graph as I describe in my pre-reg WP.

And ... it really helped! 😁

soon all the kids will be doing this...

California used to set regulations that were adopted by the world, For example, today's emissions regulatory regime complies with what CARB - the California Air Resource Board - sets. But as American hegemony comes to an end, it falls to other blocs to set global standards.

Now new Chinese regulations would force the door handle issue in the world’s biggest automotive market—rules that, given the size and power of China’s auto market, could soon show up in other parts of the world.
New Rules Could Force Tesla to Redesign Its Door Handles. That’s Harder Than It Sounds
Proposed regulations in China would mean the end of flush handles on car doors, with precious little time to roll out the changes.

The one and only @doinkboy.bsky.social caught a mistake in my post! I've fixed it now and also updated the code.
Actually the latent variable model here is identified just fine and returns an unbiased estimate 🪄

Agree 100% @stanfordaaup.bsky.social!

“When it inevitably comes time for Stanford to choose, we must remember that we owe our loyalty not to any executive branch official but to our own foundational principles. We must be ready, when it’s our turn, to walk away.”

Please nobody tell professional writer praising professional journalists Caitlin Flanagan what "out of whole cloth" means
Screenshot of text:

Not now but soon enough, there will be major stories about The Free Press being the creation of three female founders who constructed a hugely successful digital business out of whole cloth.

never in all of my years of researching or thinking about trade and industrial policy did I ever consider "raise tariffs in response to head of state/government not winning an international award"

just never considered it. I guess a failure of imagination.
