Can’t find my Leatherman multitool. Gonna airtag that thing. It’s such a time saver on a job especially when you get the bit set.

Recently read a book about John Brown that credited Thoreau with preventing abolitionists from distancing themselves from Brown — he made it a point to speak forcefully in favor of Brown’s character after the raid.

At the request of the U.S. Department of Justice, a Facebook group used by nearly 80,000 people to report sightings of federal immigration agents in the Chicago area has been taken down by the social media giant Meta, Facebook’s parent company.
Facebook suspends popular Chicago ICE-sightings group at Trump administration’s request
The group, "ICE Sighting-Chicagoland," has been increasingly used in the last five weeks of President Donald Trump’s intense deportation campaign to warn neighbors that federal agents are nearby.

now you might be thinking the study design could be confounded by the establishment candidate who doesn't get an intervention being able to claim they are actually the insurgent now but you would be wrong because we told them they can't do that

pitching the DSCC on a random control trial for intervening in primaries on behalf of insurgents vs. establishment candidates vs. not intervening at all so we can finally settle the question of what the best way to do elections good is

Makes me wonder how much having to vote multiple times w/ runoffs depresses turnout along w/ other effects.

Not sure anyone else in media can make a 35-minute fisking this entertaining. The self-awareness of doing a psuedo-news program is also something I'm not sure Stewart ever pulled off. It's never *just* comedy, and they take responsibility for research and errors.

This is part of why I think people who repeatedly get the label thrown at them aren't capable of grappling with the core criticism -- it's a Chomsky problem: if they were arguing from positions of deeply held ideological commitments they wouldn't resort to reactionary centrism when writing columns.
aaronhuertas.bsky.social
I don't see it as an ideology, I see it as public figures filling a niche in the media. A key mechanism, as the right has become more extreme, is media figures trying to find increasingly obtuse left wing things to criticize to balance out criticisms of elected officials on the right.
aaronhuertas.bsky.social
Part of what I was trying to describe was how public figures respond to incentives in the media to develop this orientation. Expressing conservative or centrist views on an issue is not interesting; someone who says they agree with the left, but the left has gone too far has a hook.
aaronhuertas.bsky.social
Thanks for sharing. FWIW, my perspective is informed by a lot of work in media / PR, so what I initially described was a public orientation among some pundits and people in the climate debate. IIRC, I noted that some people who engage in reactionary centrism see themselves as liberals or centrist.

Trump at the Charlie Kirk memorial event: "They fired sniper rifles at ICE agents, and me. But I made a turn at a good time. I made a turn at a good time. Charlie couldn't believe it, actually."

IMO he does a lot of hippie punching that falls into this category. He even lapsed into it while misrepresenting my initial arguments about this term. In the original conception it was a media posture rather a coherent ideology.

And if the national party were run by people in total political alignment with me personally, I’d feel the same way!

Part of what worked so well at Swing Left in 2018 was providing a unifying point through the primary — including demonstrating the efficacy of raising money for a nominee fund.
