I live in a walkable neighbourhood, close to mass transit, in the third largest metro in the country. And my backyard is a country bear jamboree.

Canada is just not beating the stereotypes.

The average reaction to the Hudsons Bay Company showing up offering guns for pelts was to try and monopolize contact with HBC by force and set up as an intermediary. If you stopped direct trade between the upriver nations and HBC, you'd guarantee you were richer and better armed than them.

I did enough workplace injury stuff to appreciate that:

1. these are miserable jobs that chew people up, the OH&S costs are built into the financial modelling; and
2. a lot of the people in these jobs dont have better options.

You can look at the table on wiki and realize the sky isn't falling.

But swaps are a geopolitical tool, and this isn't something to ignore either. Japan and SK weren't ever going to loudly walk away from the US order. Quiet hedging was always the fail state.

We've done a lot of pointing and laughing at America lately, so I think Americans have a right to know that (1) Prince Andrew literally pays rent of 1 peppercorn per year (if requested) on his 30-bedroom mansion; (2) MPs can't criticise this in parliament because it's forbidden to criticise a royal.

The local bear has broken through the fence again and dug up the garden to eat the bulbs we planted.

Gotta tell you, I have never been so happy as when I rolled into work the next day to deal with some emails, maybe write a memo and give some advice to people.

A while later, it's late. But the clog is unstopped, the shit is cleaned up and flushed, water shut off to the bathroom and leaked water mopped.

We even cracked the floor and got air moving to dry things out.

I wash my hands, decide to have that beer in the backyard before I shower.

Neighbour is overseas, young niece is housesitting. She's got a plumbing emergency, it's leaking through the ceiling into the main floor and she's like 20 years old, doesn't know plumbing.

The last polling I saw had Musk at 17% favourability in the country (cultmtl.com/2025/04/queb...). He maxxed at 34% + with CPC voters, and at 31% + in SK.

There are $20 bills lying on the ground if anyone wanted to pick them up. Especially a Senator who doesn't have to worry about elections.

Canada's elite just doesn't have the juice. They think in terms of reacting and chasing, not acting and shaping.

When Elon said "Canada is not a real country", there were points to be scored and a story to be driven by shutting down all official CDN govt/CBC/etc presence on X.
