Mostly poetry and soccer from an antifascist, neurodivergent, genderqueer, Christian heretic perspective. Also practical and impractical uses of language and images in and out of our current context, and an item a day from the published archives.

The groan of old trees,
Bent by the weight of seasons,
Holding up the moon.

"Imagine for a moment . . . "
the article warns

and I do—I imagine
everything that could go wrong.

But right now
it's morning
in autumn

where sunshine stings
your hooded eyes
and opens up
your veins.

Imagine, for a moment,
that you are happy
in your pain.

Today’s poem is selected by Sophie Howarth as part of the 20th anniversary of Read A Little Poetry.

"Praying" appeared in Thirst by Mary Oliver, published by Beacon Press, 2007. Shared here with deep gratitude.

America, an experiment
A Republic going strong
Until it wasn't:

'Wasn't' was a group of money-hungry like like-minded thieves devoid of conscious
Guilt never crossed their wicked minds

Dirty deeds, backroom deals
Hellbent on removing the everyday man for robotics

They too, empty souls

BUILD A SUN (Anagrammed Lines)

I build a sun. Feted, it rises.
Inside its beautiful reds,
in its dust, a blue fire dies.

Attacks on trans rights are often framed as efforts to "protect women."

But the reality is that such attacks only protect the patriarchy. Because enforcing a strict sex-based gender binary makes it easier to tilt that binary into a hierarchy where women are subordinate to men.

Lots of people say that Garfield shouldn’t hate Mondays because he’s a cat and doesn’t have a job and is therefore useless but what people don’t realize is that Garfield’s unspoken lust is to emulate humanity to the point he became bipedal so of course he’d dream of a soul crushing office job

"If they come for trans people, I will not be able to leave. I feel like a plastic mug, I am bound to certain places. My mother says I should not be afraid of the fascists. I ask my father if he still loves me if I cannot work."

Named a general,
war began.
Amid, I manage, brawl,
