We @Common_Weal are proud to be founding partners of The #OceanRights Coalition. Here's the brilliant @GirvanMichaela explaining what it's all about & why you should join us in supporting them too.
(& @nickhobson25.bsky.social deserves some serious credit for kicking this off 🤗)

Well that's my last project updates sent to my teams (except for the one I live with), most of my marking done, & my out of office reply up (& tested).

This is how I intend to spend most of the next 2 weeks.

PowerPoint is a crutch. Well designed slides should have 3-4 bullets max or 1 figure.

Any good research communicator should be able to do without it unless those figures are essential.

Definitely!

That's what makes the difference between the good students who pass & those I want to mentor (who may well not be the top of the class).

Yes, but if your plan is to drink it run it through an IR spec first as lab alcohol used to be (still is?) randomly doped with benzene to discourage this.

Others may correct me but I once helped organise an imfamous chem dept Xmas bash at Sussex where we made cocktails with lab alcohol.

I'm so going to use this 😊

I'm really bad with face blindness, sometimes even with people I've known for years, just bcs I associate them with things not names (e.g. 'that person who wrote that really good report on XYZ').

Starlink has partners in 8 countries. It works with existing phones.

It is also forging deals with rail companies, starting with Scotland.

This means that he is now starting to have access to a tremendous and unprecedented amount of data, on top of his already extraordinary access to capital.
Screenshot of the Starlink webpage showing a list of global partners offering the Direct to Cell service, which provides reciprocal global access in partner nations. The listed cellular providers are T-Mobile (USA), Optus (Australia), Rogers (Canada), One NZ (New Zealand), KDDI (Japan), Salt (Switzerland), Entel (Chile), and Entel (Peru). Screenshot of an STV News article titled 'ScotRail trains first in the world to hook up to Elon Musk's Starlink.' The subtitle mentions that satellite internet will be provided by Clarus Networks Group on Class 158 trains on Scotland's Far North Line. Below, there is an image of a ScotRail train at a rural station with a caption stating: 'ScotRail: Passengers on trains to Inverness, Thurso and Wick will be able to use the WiFi.

On my way to speak about district heating with @ronmould.bsky.social at the Scottish Federation of Housing Assocs Energy 2024 conference. 12 years ago I 1st set out the case for a Heat Supply Act but Scot Gov are still refusing to accept 45 years of evidence from Denmark.
