To simplify my setup, I made the switch from ZSH to Fish (not the first time) and then switch from rbenv (and fnm and a bunch of other things for different languages) to mise. Simpler is nice.

If you really wanna dip your toes in the nerd water, get a good terminal emulator (I'm on Ghostty) and get zsh with oh-my-zsh. It will radically change your views on terminal usefulness.
