Unprecedented corruption. Watergate every day.
BREAKING
President Trump is demanding that the DOJ pay him about $230 million in compensation for the federal investigations into him.
Any settlement will ultimately be approved by senior department officials who defended him or those in his orbit.

Which, by the by, entails that there's a new "worse than Watergate" every ~48 hours (because the first Trump impeachment was unquestionably worse than Watergate)
there is a new scandal as bad or worse than what got trump impeached the first time about every 48 hours

America's Sleeping Giant roared when police attacked civil rights marchers.
And after tens of thousands of young Americans were killed in Vietnam.
And when Nixon tried to cover up Watergate.
Today it roars once more — at the tyrant in the Oval Office.

Talks will resume in a week or two. Trump will commit three or four more watergate level scandals and he’ll forget why he was mad at Canada in the first place.

Ça se fait littéralement tous les jours dans le journalisme, ça protège les sources. Sans Gorge Profonde, pas de Watergate. Il aurait fallu ne pas sortir le Watergate ?

Good Morning, #AT40! It's 1974. We're still four days away from the law that bans credit discrimination by sex or marital status. Just six weeks past Ford pardoning Nixon. The Watergate criminal trials started this month and are ongoing. I know, I was 6 and following it closely. Or was that Grover?

Watergate: "Follow the money."
Trump: "Give me $230 million."
Investigative journalism is so much easier now.

Pick a past presidential scandal (Watergate, Iran-Contra, name it) and Trump has done something similar but worse...but I don't think anyone has done anything similar to this one.

In his Current Affairs interview, @DavidSirota.com explains how political corruption became so normalized we barely notice it.
The conversation traces money’s influence from Watergate to today’s Supreme Court cases, and what it would take to undo it.

Started with Watergate. Glad you are still here doing good work. 📺
Tonight marks a milestone for all of us at the PBS News Hour. On this day 50 years ago, we aired our first broadcast. The show had a different name, but the same mission to deliver thoughtful & trustworthy journalism. Half a century later, we're still at it & guided by the same principles & mission.

This mfer is literally going to drag us into a shooting war in Venezuela and the New York Times’ reporting will basically just be Trump press releases.
This makes their Iraq War coverage look like Woodward and Bernstein chasing down Watergate.

They can do that in the US too. Nixon resigned because his party revolted over Watergate. Different thresholds, but it is still a thing they could do

That will make the best TV since the Senate Watergate hearings.
BREAKING:
Jack Smith is requesting that Congress and the Justice Dept. let him testify in public.
In new letters to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees, Smith says he wants to testify "in open hearings" because of "the many mischaracterizations" around his investigations.

It’s like if one of the WH tapes had Haldeman and Ehrlichman telling Nixon how they were going to quash the Watergate investigation, and then they pivoted to their scheme to import cocaine-filled puppies from Bolivia.

Pam Bondi needs to look up HR Halderman.
After he left the Nixon administration in April 1973, Haldeman was tried on counts of perjury, conspiracy, and obstruction of justice for his role in the Watergate cover-up. He was found guilty and imprisoned.

Every day he says something so flagrantly impeachable, that it outpaces the *last* impeachable thing he said or did only the day before. He makes Watergate look like a quaint children’s birthday party.
Trump: "I don't think we're necessarily going to ask for a declaration of war, I think we're just gonna kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. We're going to kill them. They're going to be, like dead."

PBS News Hour began 50 years ago with a different name.
The show launched in 1975 as "The Robert MacNeil Report," and was inspired by MacNeil and Jim Lehrer's gavel-to-gave coverage of the Senate Watergate hearings two years earlier.
Deema Zein explains.
