people think neopets is all about nostalgia for childhood and yes that's part of it but also you have to look at it this way. every so often they introduce garbage that sucks that the community has to immediately patch out with userscripts! so in that way it's doubly nostalgic for 2010s tumblr

And it's not even a thing where they make it seem competitive! Adguard actively encourages userscript developers to apply for a developer license because they want people to develop userscripts that work with Adguard!

Finished to rewrite my #MutationObserver ‘s wrapper toy project, gonna testing it by reviving my “paused” #userscripts and I’m positively amazed how perfect is the combo #TamperMonkey + #uBlock to screw up ADV, cookie/paywalls, miners, anti adblockers, etc 🚀🧨

First I used instapaper, now I use pocket, synced to two e-ink readers, big one for home, small for out and about.
Stuff like userscripts and pihole could probably make it tolerable.

on the other hand to be fair it does add clutter. next natural progression of this is userscripts to hide the bookmark replies, like it was with the "+" replies 😅

1] You can massively moderate bsky posts using a mute word userscript --or, in my case, several 'tiered' muting userscripts. For instance, certain hashtags can have their own mute lists. Members can be muted locally without invoking a formal Bsky mute.

hm are there any userscripts or similar that add richtext facet editing (for e.g. links) to the main bsky frontend? i'm aware there's social-app forks that add this, but would be neat to have it client-side.

Yeah, there were a ton of sketchy extensions I didn't want to deal with. Userscripts at least looks like it isn't trying to steal my crypto wallet or whatever.

AdGuard is a similarly awesome tool that also works in safari and even some non-browser apps like Discord, is entirely customizable and supports userscripts (like paywall bypass)

When we were making extensions go for Firefox in '03 and folks were doing cool shit like this for websites with userscripts (hosted at mozdev.org --years before GM, userscsrips.org or addons.mozilla.org) we discussed alignment many times.
At least in those early days we optimized for chaotic good.
