Moved my home theater PC to Bazzite. Was on Bluefin but I ultimately felt that the reason I did that (containers) was going mostly unused. Ublue made this painless btw.
Had an issue with waydroid where the service for the container wasn't launching on boot. I figured it out though.

Im the one who wrote the whole vfio script for bluefin, Aurora and bazzite.
Its based on my golang project quickpassthrough.
But since i know exactly whats going on in the ublue images i could simply put it into a bash script without it looking ugly 🙂

Ooh it's #ublueaurora Fedora 41 day! My system downloaded the new image while I was working and I'm about to reboot into a whole new version.
Absolutely magic.

Nag warning runs regardless of update availability · Issue #94 · ublue-os/uupd
I am on current Bazzite. Periodically, uupd will start spamming "System Warning" pop-ups under KDE telling me to update. The pop ups recur constantly until the system is rebooted, even over fullscr...

Yeah, so, my goal of building a near-fully self-contained Bazzite and Aurora build system on my GitLab instance...
I've decided that it's not necessary, for several reasons which I'm not inclined to explain.
I'm just going to keep building my custom versions based on the ublue-os/image-template.

Davincibox works great. It uses a container to make sure things work. On a ublue spin like Bazzite it's a one download one command install, don't know about other distros. NVIDIA broke 2 months ago tho, one of the reasons I went back to Windows

that the maintainers of ublue and its distros come out of the woodwork to yell at you for lamenting this, and seem to just hate nix period, is not really confidence inspiring.

It's the tech savvy folks / power users who have advanced software needs, but these people generally don't mind using the terminal, so again, there's no issues.
So I'm not sure which niche user group you're referring to, who might have issues with uBlue distros.

Install distrobox and create an arch container:
> distrobox create -i ghcr.io/ublue-os/arch-distrobox -n arch
> distrobox enter arch
> paru -S ladybird-git
Select pipewire-jack. Proceed with defaults. At the PKGBUILD screen, press 'q', then 'y' to accept changes. Ladybird should start to compile now

Helt far off mhp rettspraksis og lovverk.

Having gotten a better understanding of the situation, I will say one thing; ublue images are fedora based, and fedora does not package nix. There's a copr repo but it has serious issues (like adding nix to the path five times). Getting nix working reliably on fedora is a PITA

It’s like saying it’s acceptable to break docker because you personally use some fuck ass bash script.
It’s not like ublue never adopts dark patterns elsewhere. Just try to change your default terminal on bazzite lmao.

The terminal thing is more of a distro / use-case thing. If you're just a "normal" PC user without any specific/advanced software/hardware requirements, and you use an atomic distro like one of the uBlue distros (eg Aurora), then you never have to touch the terminal, like at all.

I hope #Fedora ublue-os/cosmic gets the support it needs to (not sure if this is the correct terminology) become a fully supported atomic spin once #COSMICDE hits 1.0. I've had nothing but a great experience with #Kinoite on my partners laptop and #Bazzite on her gaming desktop.

my fault for suggesting you use the official route suggested by the ublue devs (rolling a custom image with an empty /nix folder) to get nix installed I will never listen to the ublue devs again

@alxlg this is for my personal laptop, on which I will do some gaming. Bazzite has my #asus specific stuff installed out the gate, and because it's atomic, it's easy enough to include Aurora's list as well in my #ansible setup playbook: https://github.com/ublue-os/bluefin/blob/main/packages.json

Big news! Our friends at Universal Blue have released an LTS of their Bluefin OS, built with the power of bootc on top of CentOS Stream base images. If you love Bluefin but want CentOS stability, check it out.

I truly believe that for most people, projects like ublue are the future of desktop computing.

ok not using the framework. the CMOS battery died (apparently a very common issue with the 11th Gen model) and replacing it requires soldering and I don't think I'm interested. I'll just try to switch my x220 to a version of uBlue instead
right now, on my x220, I'm using NixOS, but it's basically a glorified note taking device and doing anything Real on it is a pain when I use it for like a couple of hours a week. on my Framework, which I will commit to I guess, it uses Bluefix which is based off uBlue

A lot of what systemd is doing, you can also do with ublue. That said, the Atomic/Immutable space is still pretty new and there are not a ton of options, so it is never bad if you have an idea you want to explore.

one of the ublue distros maybe
bluefin, aurora or bazzite if it's for gaming
my personal favourite is nixos but yeah lol i don't think you want that
it can definitely be molded into a very set it and forget distro but that will take some work
