One thing we don't want to do with Malvanean is use elements like 'fire,' 'air' or 'water.' Plenty of games have fire attacks. Few games have attacks based on an element symbolizing the process by which the larvae of the wasp turn the flesh of the caterpillar into more wasps.

Based on what I've read since then about just how much explosive they used I'm forced to wonder if they used any formula at all or just went "that sounds about right to turn it into bits small enough for the birds and raccoons to clean up"

How much of baseball’s reputation of being a numbers nerds’ game is just because it was way easier to extract discernible, graspable, trivia-night-able numbers from a discrete, essentially turn-based game than say a game where everyone is running all the time, especially in the age of newspapers

a turn based rpg that's a string of random encounters and occasional bosses nonstop with nothing in between

A deckbuilder card game like Dominion but it starts on the last turn and it's a puzzle to figure out how to play the last turn to earn the maximum amount of additional victory points

I saw a post a year ago saying “baseball is turn-based combat” and I said NOT YET IT ISN’T

maybe i will finally give it a shot... i tried both honkai third impact and genshin so not totally out of my wheelhouse. plus i love a turn based game 👁

I don't think the series should switch to this gameplay fully going forward, I think turn-based Pokémon is the series' bread and butter and always will be, but I hope a future Legends game brings this battle system back and expands on it in some way. It's a lot of fun.

The move from turn-based to real-time completely changes how Pokémon battles work. Moves I'd usually swap out for stronger alternatives in other games are much more useful here because weaker moves tend to activate faster than stronger moves.

The gameplay? It's Xenoblade. They made Pokémon Xenoblade. It's peak. This game feels so fast-paced and fun with its battles and gameplay loop. Battles go by so much faster than in other games because this game isn't turn-based. It works surprisingly well.

It's fun watching parents turn their son into an incel.

The social and emotional aspect is the most important part of children that age. Play based learning is key to development. How they play with others defines so much.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

That tends to happen when you train an AI model based on facts. Elon already found that out the hard way when he tried to turn Grok into a Nazi and broke it.

if you are an industry friend then you know how adverse I am to recommend any sort of turn based RPG ever

it’s because this is the bar I think that needs to be cleared before it’s worthy of someone’s time. this game has got the JUICE

if you enjoyed the remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics, the Persona series, Into the Breach or generally just really like turn based RPGs…

you REALLY should look forward to playing DEMONSCHOOL next week

the demo is one of the smartest, high style takes I’ve played from this genre in a decade
TWO WEEKS UNTIL DEMONSCHOOL

That is seeming more like the XCOM or Mario+Rabbids style of turn-based
November 12, 2025 at 2:43 PM
Can you elaborate? Turn-based like JRPGs, or turn-based like XCOM? Because if it's the XCOM style, I'm cooked. I could never wrap my head around that style of combat.

8. Imagine if FF Remake was an actual turn based game like people wanted
November 12, 2025 at 2:39 PM
Haven't tried their new build yet which is supposed to improve it, but when I played it at launch Act 3 was only playable because it was turn based.

I think there's probably other games that actually do this within the turn based genre, but I can't recall any at present.
November 12, 2025 at 2:16 PM
Skipping the turn based requirement just to say that Mount and Blade is probably the only game I'm aware of that actually does some sort of prisoner mechanic beyond just a stat or prompt.

The CRPG protagonist dream, you get to gather all your companions together in one place and hang out and occasionally engage in turn based combat

The problem with the broadly claimed "Everyone is using AI" thing is, once again tools that use a machine learning based algorithm to cut down on busy work no human wants to do ever is getting lumped in with "Generative AI" and that needs to get called out at every turn.
