Been seeing a lot of these Three-Cornered Alfalfa Hoppers[?] (S. festinus[?]) recently and they are just precious. 🥰

Such a good-shaped creature.

#13DaysOfHalloween Day 6 is the Brazilian treehopper, one of >3K types of treehoppers, with fancy helmets on both male and female bugs (and funny enough, not much treehopping). The black “beads” will pop off if picked up by a predator, adding a layer of defense www.sciencefocus.com/nature/what-... 🧪

Oak treehoppers are out! Known for their endearing maternal care, mamas remain with their babies until they emerge as adults and eventually leave the oak branch where they were born.

Oak Treehopper Mama Update!
Here she is with entire brood. They're getting big! So, why is it nice to leave some leaves around? These kids will hibernate over winter as adult females in leaf litter.

Would you love me if I was a treehopper

An ALIEN on earth!? 🤯👽
CHECK OUT this insane Treehopper from the Peruvian Amazon! 🌳
Membracids are known for their bizarre shapes and protrusions, but this genus goes to a whole new level! It is thought this crazy C shape is to aid in camouflage to avoid predation from birds! 🐦😳

Mama Oak Treehopper with her brood. The kids are growing fast! They do like being on the bottom of the branch, it's probably much safer for them there.

Here are earlier pics. The first is the mother treehopper watching over her eggs (2 weeks ago) and the second is showing mama with her newly hatched brood (1 week ago).

A rainbow treehopper
September 11, 2025 at 12:01 AM
With iridescent rainbow hues across its body and striking red legs, this treehopper stands out like a living jewel. Its horn-like extensions even hold shimmering droplets of water, making it look otherworldly.

This dazzling little creature is a rainbow Treehopper (family Membracidae), looking like it was painted by nature’s own brush. 🌈🦗

One of the clutches of oak treehopper eggs I've been watching (but not as diligently as the mum) has hatched! They're such tiny brown lumps! 😍 My previous observations tell me she will remain watching them til they're near adults. I love them so much. 🤎
